Facial?

God, just been realizing how awful my face looks. It is filled with oil no matter how I exfoliate and which scrub I use and plus blackheads, especially on my nose!!! So thinking about going to get a facial for the first time.

Any of you guys tried it? Will I see results right away the first time especially if I extract the blackheads? How much does that hurt as well? Discuss all things facial here!

If you're having oil problems you might want to try oil cleansing. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but it works for a lot of people, I guess. For blackheads you might wanna try getting those pore strips (I know it's not manly but hey, they work).

i am not sure if you want to try this, but i have found and recommended this to friends with the same issue as you are describing;
unrefined shea butter
i really think you may have some great results with it. i have been using it for 12 years or more as a moisturizer and have had great results. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck.

+1 on the Biore nose strips. These things work great for pulling the blackheads out. The whole "squeezing blackheads out" thing can really wreak havoc on your nose. I would recommend the Biore strips and then start with a good cleanser for oily skin - something like an Olay cleanser. Follow that with the Shea Butter thing (but not on your nose) and I would think you might start to see some improvement. Oh - and use a toner (say Thayers Witch Hazel) on your snout after you have doen the strip - it will help tighten your nose pores. I have found that using Oxy face cleaner works well for my nose to keep the grunge out.

Also, consider using a face brush - it will help work the product in and the gunk out. Hey - you use one to shave, right? Get with it and buff that mug!

I get 3 or 4 facials a year, more or less in line with the seasons. Since I've been doing so, I get much less of an oily nose/T-zone and my normal "maintenance" gets me through quite well. The chicks at the salon are jealous of my skin!

I use Neutrogena's "Fresh Foaming Cleanser" every night before bed (I shave in the AM). It is actually a makeup remover and cleanser and it does a great job in removing AS splash, balm, and/or spf moisturizing cream, not to mention I have very oily skin. Unlike conventional soap, it still leaves my face moist. I pat dry and slap on some witch hazel to finish. In a way you can say that my shave routine starts the night before.

Thanks guys...good stuff in this thread. I will try finding the strips in stores here in Canada. Interesting I am a big shea butter fan but had ran out for the last couple months. I just re-ordered a week or so ago so should get the jar soon. I already use witch hazel sometimes. Might need to buy a daily cleanser as well.

And yes I will still be going for a facial I think. I'm surprised they cost over $100 though!

Nearly every one of us at some time may have seen a blackhead on the nasal area, chin area, ear, or even within the lobe and they are not very good, however undesired they are you must never press a blackhead with your finger nails as this isn't healthier, there is a knack to ridding blackheads which is more hygienic and safe.

I have been using witch hazel for years, applying it from my forehead, around the eyes,(carefully) and the nose. I have almost eliminated my black head problem.

Something my wife has always told me is to go easy on oil removal products. The skin just compensates by producing more oil. Gentle face washes get a nod.

Before shelling out $100 on a facial, you might want to try the oil cleansing method for a few weeks to see if it improves the texture of your skin and gets rid of the blackheads - a lot of people swear by it. You can also make a facial masque inexpensively at home if you buy a little clay at your local health food store (usually bentonite, French green or kaolin) and mix it to a paste with water or plain yogurt. In my experience, the main advantage to getting a facial in a salon is that they will manually extract the blackheads (instant gratification), give you a facial massage and use a uv sterilizing wand on potential infections. But if you don't make any changes to your diet or skin care regimen, they'll just come back.

Where can I buy a facial masque if I don't want to make it myself?

Anthony Logistics Deep Pore Cleansing Clay is some great stuff for a home facial. Wash face, apply the mud, relax for about 15 minutes, then was off. Tube lasts a long time. A great Sunday morning relaxer prior to shower and shave.

I've also used Neutrogena Rapid Clear Oil-Eliminating Foaming Cleanser to help eliminate blackheads. It doesn't contain salicylic acid so it really isn't an acne soap, but it does get the oil out of your pores.

+1 on the Nancy Boy facial mask. I use a lot of their products and they have all performed very well for me. I also agree with Omp. Too much cleansing can, in some cases, cause your skin to over compensate.
