Face lather?

Why is it people seem to "prefer soaps as I can face lather" on here?

There are no rules, applying cream to and brush and putting straight onto the face or spreading a cream over the face then lathering after will not get you shot!

I'm not sure I understand. If you do enough reading around here, you'll see that many people face lather with both soaps and creams. Others like to bowl lather with both soaps and creams. Some like to face lather with one, and bowl lather with the other. I don't think anyone's here to tell you that you can't do it one way or another.

I face lather with soap, bowl lather with cream. I found I produce a better lather doing it like this. Have I bowl lathered with soap and face lathered with cream? You bet. I face lather with creams as a pre-shave before I hop in the shower and leave it on.

I am also one that prefers to lather soap on the face, and cream in a bowl. I just like the way that soap feels while building the lather on my face. It's great!

Face lathered with some Musgo cream this morning. Worked splendidly.

I do prefer soaps, but for other reasons. Probably the main reason is that it takes a bit more effort to get the lather just right, to be honest. I take my accomplishments where I can get them.

Oddly enough, I've recently begun to face lather. I have used creams occassionally in the past but far and away I prefer soaps. As far as I can tell, face lathering and bowl lathering with soaps seems about equally effective and for the most part has become just another variable to consider in my daily shaves (i.e. what razor? what soap? face or bowl lather? Lotion or no lotion? which after shave?)

The one thing I think I prefer about bowl lathering is that the mug full of lather can be place in really hot water so that the lather stays warm. Weekend shaves are almost always bowl lather as warm lather just seems to add another degree of luxury.

I think thats just the personality of this forum. A lot of the guys on here seem to think that if you use mostly soaps, and are a face-latherer that you have achieved some higher level of wet-shaving aptitude. I could be way off on this, but it's my perspective from what I read. Not that there is anything wrong with any one way of doing things in regards to wet shaving, people should do what works best for them. Personally I face-lather sometimes, bowl lather at other times, and I use both soaps and creams, I try to enjoy as much of everything out there that I can with this great hobby that we have.

+1 Mr. Max....+1

Well I can only speak for myself, but I prefer face lathering with soaps because of one simple fact:

When I load my brush with Soap, I already have a little bit of lather built in my brush.
So when I put it to my face I have something to start with and won´t be pushing around cream in my face.
That´s mainly why I prefer face lathering with soap and not with cream.

I have only been face lathering since I shave. Don't know or haven't tried bowl lathering as I am so happy with my technique. I use Omega boars with shaving creams. I apply the cream liberally on my face with my finger massaging it in the stubble after a hot towel. I let the boar do its job with its bristle power !!

I face lather with soap and sometimes cream.

I get a better shave face lathering. I like the warmth I get from lathering in a bowl so I bowl lather with cream just to change things up.
