Eversharp shave 1

I got a nice deal on an Eversharp with a few GEM blades. I was expecting something that would be a big rougher as a shave but no, from what I read here, it was going to be better. Surprisingly it was! Ultra smooth shave and very close. I got a box of blades on the way and will probably buy some more. I remembered seeing that this one is really about the razor doing the shave and it's right, no pressure and it was smoothly going from A to B cutting all those whiskers.

Under the nose is tricky as the head of the razor is fairly thick. I'm also waiting on an injector. If it's as smooth as the gem, I'm converted to SE... :w00t:

Here the beast. I will need to wash the razor when I change the blade. The only negative that I can find so far is the short handle. If it would be 1/2" longer it would be perfect. It's still very usable. I find the shaves to be very smooth. Smoother than with my DE...

Well done with that Ever-Ready, single edge razors are lots of fun and I think they have some of the coolest designs out there, especially the lather catchers. Here are four that I have:

Gem Junior Bar, Ever-Ready Streamline, J.A. Henckels Wotan, C.V. Heljestrand Kindal

The blades seem to last for ever, so I wouldn't be in much of a hurry change to a fresh one. Glad you have discovered to joy of SE shaving.

How do the latter two shave compared to the typical SE Gem?

They were designed to be used with wedge blades but work well with the present day single edge blades, the shaves are a bit more aggressive but much more fun for some reason, light pressure is always key with any razor even more so with aggressive razors.

Nice collection Erik! I just need to find a longer handle for mine!

Thanks. Yeah, I keep considering the same for the Gem Junior Bar, to get a longer and heavier handle, I have so many custom DE handles but no custom SE handles, maybe one day I will get around to commissioning someone to get one made.

How are you holding the handle? Try pinching it right up at the necked down part and just balancing the rest of the handle against your fingers without gripping. In other words, hold your index finger out straight, place the necked down part of the handle right across the fold of the joint of the tip of the finger (blade facing out toward the end of the finger). Then hold in place with the tip of your thumb. The razor should be hanging straight down at 90 degrees to the index finger. Now relax your hand and note how the middle and ring fingers just fall lightly against the rest of the handle? Good. When shaving, you will probably pull inward a bit with the middle finger and pivot the razor in your pinched grip to get the angle flat against your face. For upward strokes, like on the neck, twirl the razor in the pinch so it faces the top of the index finger. Let it float in your hand like that and your shaves will be easy and smooth.

I hold it like I would hold a DE razor. The blade angle is a different story. Surprisingly, it was almost natural to use a SE since I used a DE before. I did not have much of an issue finding the proper angle either. I'm suspecting the DE experience is counting here.
