Ever Ready Question

Hello,
I'm currently working on restoring a wood handled Ever Ready "2" brush. The black rubber holding the knot has gone quite grey and I'm curious if there is a good way to restore its blackness. Would a good polish with a buffing wheel and flitz do the trick or should I just leave good enough alone? Thank you for any help

I'm familiar with similar discoloration with antique fountain pens. There's usually little that can be done by any kind of polishing. In the pen hobby, there are a couple of chemical blackening options for black hard rubber. They're a bit messy and a pain however.

Going well, this is my first brush restoration and I am a few coats into tru-oil as we speak. I'll be placing the knot within the next few days and then will definitely post a few picks on the forum

You might want to try Turtle Wax Trim Restorer. About $7.00 at your local auto store. Makes the black plastic trim on autos turn black again.
