Ever Ready F40

Having been convinced that I need to restore my own brush, I've decided that the Ever Ready F40 handle is my favorite (it reminds me of the futuristic obsessed space-age 50s for some reason.)

1. Is ebay the best way to find one?
2. Does anyone have any spare lying around.
3. Is that particular model hard to find?
4. What knot size does it take?
5. Is the handle hallow or solid?

1. Yes
2. Unfortunately, no.
3. They show up from time to time. The similar 200T is widely available.
4. 20mm
5. Hollow.

Hope this helps.

Good choice...you will have fun.

I put an 18mm Best in my EverReady 150....a 20mm would not have fit it without opening it up a bit.

I suggest you find the handle first and remove the knot before ordering one. Having it hollow allows you to set the loft to your own ideas of what you want in a brush.

Can't help you with the technical details but nice to see we "convinced" you to do a restore.

Most of my previous ADs were actually from trying to find something that worked for me. It took me a while. Once I found the trac II, my shaving ADs stopped. Unfortunately, I can see this one developing out of pure "want." :001_rolle

What is the difference between the f40 and the 200t. The 200t looks close enough to satisfy me.

Wouldn't get too hung up about the differences. If you like the look of the handle go for it.

Have a look at this thread here lot's of piccies of different Ever Readys :001_smile

The personalisation after that is what size knot, what type of hair, what loft ..........

I think the 200T has a metal band in the middle that seperates the two colors. a little flair.

Watch it though, Ian is going to twist your arm and make you get a finest knot from TGN.

Really that finest two-band is a very nice knot. I have two of them awaiting handles...if I could have crammed one into my EverReady I would have.

I've tried the Chinese Silvertip and the Finest and IMHO the Finest is the best bang for buck knot. Soft but dense.

I really want to try the Grade A Silvertip or Super ( or maybe both ) but that would mean finding another (2 ) handle(s) ( not easy in Tasmania ) and I've promised myself I don't need another brush ( though my Vintage Hyde Park is STILL shedding boar bristles ).

As Schwert recommended don't order any knots yet, you need to get the handle first to know what knot will fit in it. If it's sub 20mm knot hole the Finest is not an option.

Yeah that finest runs right at 20...maybe a touch larger.

I put an 18mm Best in my EverReady and it is an exceptional knot, it is softer overall then the 18mm Grade A Silvertip...with ~42mm lofts. The Silvertip did not bloom as wide as the Best and definitely has more backbone.

So once you find THE handle you will be able to find a perfect knot.

I am ordering the 20mm UK Dark Pure...which runs small (16-18mm) for my Butterscotch...I will let you know how that ones works when I get it completed.

Tony has a good selection of knots in these small sizes and I almost do not think you can go wrong with any of them. I have been very impressed with the quality of the knots...both Chinese and UK.

Yeah I think you do. The extra stuffing in the 18mm gives me an exceptional brush...it blooms about 25% wider then the 18mm Silvertip set at the same loft.

It is exceptional....I am ordering another one just in case I find another EverReady.

Ahh, think you've saved me, read that wrong in your original post. Backbone more important to me than bloom.

I have a 200T, and it does not have a metal band in the middle. It looks almost identical to the F40.

Sorry my picture isn't great, our camera is starting to act up.

interesting.. any 200T that I have seen had a metal band. Although I have a 100T that looks similar to that 200T you just posted. Difference being the white half is on top and the bottom is black. I think KiltedShaver has a couple of these for sale. The knot I had in the 100T was boar bristle. What is in that 200T?

Size of the handle maybe? knot?

Edit to answer my own question:

Bigfoot83 in the Ever-Ready Model number thread posted pics of his 100T and 200T next to each other with measurements. 200T is larger by his measurements. Both were boar in his case.
