What's new

Ever heard of this one?

I won a razor on the bay this evening that matches no description in the Wiki. From what I could determine, it's either a Ranger with a gold head (!) or a Milord with a silver (chrome?) handle (!). I'll post photos when it gets here, and if I knew how, I'd post the thread to the bay so you could take a look at it there.

It has the markings consistent with the Ranger/Milord, including the Pat notice on the handle. I didn't know TTO's could be taken apart and reassembled with different heads and/or handles, but ICOCBW.

Any help out there (either on what the razor might be, or how to post a link to it)?

Phil

Added: I didn't find anything on Achim's site that looked like it, either.

They are considered as Frankenrazors but usually the TTO knob will be gold as well. It is possible to disassemble them but its not easy.

I'm not sure what was going on then, (besides Pearl Harbor), but there does seem to be a subset of the 1941 Ranger Tech that consists of various parts with various plating types.

I have a similar '41 with a nickel handle and a brass head.

its like a razor made with all diffrent parts to make one whole razor, it could have parts from a tech, milford and fatboy, put them all together and you have a franken razor..kinda like frakenstien.:sneaky2::mad3::lol:

ah, TY. If this is one (and I haven't found any references that show a gold head and silver handle yet) I wonder how well it'll work.

Yeah i was watching this too. I pm'd him to let him know it's a frankenrazor but he insisted it was a milord with the plating worn off. Decided not to bid cause frankenrazor resell value.

I think he's right about it being a Milord with plating loss. Give me a moment and I'll track down the appropriate threads.

I don't care that much about the resale value, since I don't plan to resell it. Basically, the reason I was bidding is because it's from my birth year (assuming 1941 is the correct year) and because I was curious about the two tone finish. I'm not unhappy with the deal, but don't know that I'll spend much time actually shaving with it -- I have plenty of others for a rotation <lol>

I seriously doubt the existence of frankenrazor tto's. It's one thing to swap a handle on a three piece, and quite a different thing to disassemble a tto and put it back together with different parts. It doesn't seem like the time invested would merit the money saved over a new razor.

I think it may have come from Gillette this way. Calling it a frankenrazor may be off the mark. I tend to think this therory by Gatorade below back in 2007 makes the most sense.

Also here is a photo of a '41 Aristocrat and a Ranger. The Aristocrat has a gold head and TTO knob and nickel handle while the Ranger has a nickel handle and brass head. I think they were making what they could with what they had. We were in a war.....

fwiw- (not sure if this is allowed, it is kind of a bin.) there is a razor up for auction currently that is a milord with plating worn off the tto part and the head. (it's the one with the guy with dirty fingernails.)
