What's new

Ever enjoy cartridges?

So it appears as though at least 99% if not all the members of this site really enjoy and look forward to every shave now. As well as wanting to try new soaps, creams and purchasing new razors and brushes etc. but did any of you ever feel passionate about shaving or even enjoy it before discovering wet shaving?

I personally really enjoyed it and loved my razors and after shaves and things, even now that I use a DE I dont wanna throw away my mach 3 or fusion even though I will probably never use them again.

No, I never loved it nor did I look forward to shaving. Still, I have to say the Mach 3 is a pretty good razor for what it is. When it comes to cartridge razors, it truly is 'the best a man can get'. With a good prep, soap and brush it can yield excellent results.

When I'm in a hurry I will wetshave with a cartridge but I don't enjoy it. I usually try to make time for shaving these days. I never liked shaving before I got my DE.

I can say I 100% did not ever love shaving with a cartridge or even came close to thinking "that was fun" afterwards.

I will also say if I was using a brush and good soap/creme with my cartridge instead of canned goo I would have enjoyed it more. my enjoyment comes from deciding what awesome soap/creme i want to use today and whipping up a lather the "old fashioned" way. If I had all the software i have now and still using a cartridge it wouldn't be bad at all. except for....the outrageous price of cartridges.

I never had a problem shaving with my Mach 3.
The reason I switched was curiosity, the nostalgia and also I need to save money.

what i enjoy about my fusion is that it will give me an irritation free shave in under 2 minutes using only residual shampoo in the shower.
strictly a utilitarian joy.

I was never fond of shaving with my cartridge razor and I also needed to save money. Which I haven't at all due to my addiction to buying vintage razors!

I hated shaving so much with the cartridge that I grew a goatee/mustache in order to avoid the razor burn. After I get more comfortable (only week and a half in) with DE...may consider shaving it off.

I never did. It was always a chore and I never looked forward to it. I don't ever not look forward to shaving now with my DE or straight especially with a nice variety of creams!

I didn't enjoy it at all, but on the other hand I had terrbile technique and didn't know about proper prep or post care. Now that I know how to shave I'll use the old Atra a couple of times a year with no consequences.

I thought the original Gillette Atra with two blades and lube strip was pretty good. Never saw any better shaves with anything that came after. While I never had any real love for the process I got a pretty good shave and liked how I felt freshly shaved.

Did I use carts? Yes--I started out on Trac II's when they were the latest and greatest thing back in the 1970's, and moved up to Mach 3's in the 90's. Heck, I still use a Trac II clone when I travel sometimes, and even use a Mach 3 if I'm in a big hurry and need a mindless shave.

That last phrase, though, is exactly the problem with carts for me--MINDLESS shaving is not something I'm interested in any more. Once I discovered the wonderful world of DE, SE, and injector shaving, I'm having way too much fun to want to shave without thinking about it.

Due to irritation, I could only shave with the Mach III 2X per week. - I shave daily now.

I do wonder if prep and software have anything to do with it though. I've been meaning to try out the M3 with a good prep & lather to see how it goes.

The closest to "enjoying" a Mach III shave was (laugh if you like), I threw a can of Edge Gel Sensitive into a sink full of hot water to warm it while I showered, and applied a hot towel to my beard after for prep. The shave was decent from what I remember, but what really stands out is how nice the warm gel/foam felt when I applied it to my beard.

I shaved with VDH brush and soap a Sensor for 18 years before switching to DE. I couldn't shave every
day. Looking back, I know that it as due to my horrid technique. I switched to DE 5 years ago and I really enjoy my daily shaves.

Yes, I now look forward to my cartridges shaves. It started to happen when I started prepping with pre-shave oil and quality products. It increased when I acquired the Proglide Styler (trimmer/shaver) which really seems to be perfect for my face and the cartridges last me far longer than any previous cart. It is now in high-gear since getting a badger brush and really working my face before shaving.

Given the shaving-related problems I had in the past, I am still shocked I now enjoy shaving. On to DE soon---maybe.
