This is a French made soap doesn't get much press on this forum and others (no wiki entry yet), so I thought I would put in my thoughts in case someone wanted to give it a try. I had the chance to do a few test lathers, and get a shave in with this soap. The modernesque name was initially a turnoff but its a excellent soap that performs admirably. Overall I find it to be a phenomenal soap, but pricey ($25/refill).
It's a VERY dense hard soap (not malleable at all) that has vegetable formulation:
Potassium Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Water (Aqua), Sodium Stearate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Palm Kernel Acid, Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima Oil), Fragrance (Parfum), Cocamide DEA, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, BHT, Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI 77289), Benzyl Benzoate, Amyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal, Coumarin, Methyl 2-Octynoate, Eugenol, Amyl Cinnamyl Alcohol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Isoeugenol
Pricing: 5
It's ~$25/refill for 100g so its quite expensive. However the soap puck is very hard so it appears that a single puck will last a very long time. Although it's a great soap, I don't think eShave brand has the clout or recognition to charge this much. There are so many alternatives at this price (which is approaching MdC territory!).
Quality: 9
Soap refill came well packaged, sealed in plastic around in a cardboard box. Lather, scent, moisturizing were well above average and competitive with the popular tallow soaps. Reminds me of Institute Karite in performance, but felt much easier to load.
Scent: 9
Nice and moderate scent, hard to describe. It's a very natural scent, a bit woody. Never had the chance to smell linden before.
Latherability: 10
Fairly easy to load, and doesn't require extended loading periods to get a good lather. I could get away with < 30 seconds for 3+ pass shave. Not quite as easy to lather as MdC, but its very good in comparison other soaps. The resulting lather is slick, and had a lot of cushion. I might have to thin it out next shave as it it provided a bit to much cushion (especially when used with a mild razor). One of the best lathers from a veggie soap.
Efficacy: 9
Does what its supposed to do, and its a great soap. Apart from a few tallow based soaps (and MdC), its hard to beat.
Moisturizing Properties: 10
This is where the soap really shines. I was worried that this being a palm oil soap would be very drying, however its quite moisturizing probably due to the addition of avocado oil. It's just as moisturizing as a lanolin containing soaps or the veggie benchmark Institute Karite.
Packaging:
Packaging is decent for a refill soap. No complaints.
Conclusions:
Overall I'm impressed, I most likely will replace it once its finished. It would be a lot better if it was priced a bit lower, similar to Tabac or MWF refill. However the scent is great, and performance wise its one of the best veggie hard soap I have tried. I would clearly choose this over ToBS, and GFT reformulated hard soaps.
Here is a terrible cellphone pics of my lather. I tried a closeup to show the rich, creamy nature of the lather:
