EDC Knife Ideas Wanted

I’ve lost my EDC blade, don’t know how in the heck that happened, but it did. I’m now looking for a new blade. I want a locking folder, about 3-3.5” blade length, non-tanto, high pocket clip, and decent metal. I wouldn’t mind assisted opening either. I was really interested in the SOG Flashback to give you an idea of what I’m looking for. But I saw a lot of really negative reviews of this blade and SOG in general. This will be mainly used for the normal everyday tasks, but I would like it to hold its own in a self defence situation if needed.

Shoot me some ideas fellas.

First off, consider a knife a tool not a weapon. Unless you have been trained in how to use one, pulling a knife will create problems in an encounter not solve them.

For possible consideration for a tool knife I would look at offerings such as the Spyderco Delica, Benchmade mini-grip, or an Al Mar Hawk. I find 3-inches to be about as large a blade as I want in my pocket, For most uses I have for a knife a smaller blade is more than sufficient.

Again, it is NOT a weapon.

Badger, thanks for your imput! I do consider it a tool and not a wepon, but if I was hard pressed and had no other alternitive including the understanding of the risks of pulling it, I would. I do understand the risks of having this mindset.

With regard to the options you listed, I actually have been looking at all three of those models. I really like the Al Mar Hawk and Delica.

Recently got a benchmade 707 sequel (aluminum version of the mini grip) to be my weekend carry. The gerber ripstop is my daily as this is a pry bar and I tend to snap off tips so need inexpensive knife that will hold some semblance of an edge. I really hated the pocket clip because it sticks out to far and has a tendency to pop out of rear pocket. Contacted benchmade and got the
clip for the adamas now is deep carry and is much more secure for the way I carry.

I have Spyderco Endura and Kershaw Leek. The first one is larger, the second one is a small EDC. Both are great.

Al mar is nice but aus8 steel... Vg-10 tends to chip that's what happened to my delica... For me I like anything in s30v or s35... I suggest the spyderco native if u wanna go cheaper or the Chris reeve sebenza if u got 400 bucks laying around

There's nothing wrong with Aus 8 steel, as lng as you understand its limits. I personally like it, easy to sharpen, gets laser sharp and works well for my needs.

I carry three knives daily, a fixed for heavy cutting, a locking folder for lunch and most work, also a slip joint for dicrete use in sensitive pulic places like in front of elderly women and such.

For back pocket knives I like the Kershaw skyline, I almost never even know its there, light, slim, inexpensive if I lose it, good steel, can be found most anywhere, great size.

Gah, now I'm gonna have to start researching steel as well, I tell ya, you guys really play into a guy "needing" to the get best around here haha.

I recently upgraded from a small Schrade to a Kershaw leek. I have been really impressed with the Kershaw for what I wanted: smaller blade, thin frame, light and easy to carry in dress pants. I use it as an EDC and I dress business casual, so anything too big is bulky and uncomfortable all day. I removed the clip from mine because I found I don't use it. Had no experience with assisted opening, but have come to like that aspect. It also has a frame lock and an additional lock when closed so it works well for me as EDC. Good luck in your search.

I'm a Victorinox kind of guy, so here's my contribution: the One Hand Trekker. They're made in both serrated and non-serrated.

I carried a Kershaw Leek as an EDC for years, and thought highly enough of it to give one to each of my groomsmen when I got married. Throughout the years I've owned and enjoyed Spyderco, Gerber, and Kershaw EDCs. About two years ago (after losing my Leek) I bought a Benchmade Mini Griptillian. I love it. Best EDC knife I've ever owned.

I've been considering buying the Buck Vantage pro force. Very deep carry and s30v steel. Looks pretty good IMO.

I currently EDC with this blade, except mine isn't the "force" one (black grips and blade isn't black)

Great blade for my daily use

Vantage pro is a great knife but I had to round off the flipper as it cut through back pocket. Holds an edge better than any other knife I carry.

Did you get accustomed to the thumb opening? I don't really like using it, maybe a thumb stud would work better
