Eclipse Red Rings in the wild?

I've been puzzling over where Eclipse Red Rings have been found (not merely purchased) in recent years. One of my grand(iose) antiquing ambitions is to find one in the wild, largely because I know the odds are so low. But when did anyone last discover one in an antique store or junk shop? I have the peculiar feeling that the entire trade in Red Rings nowadays is something of a closed circle of collectors buying and selling from and to each other. Can anyone testify first-hand or even second-hand to finding one of these razors in the wild, on any continent? In this decade? In the last decade?

Not that bad news will put me off my quixotic ambition. I'm hunting my personal white whale come hell or high water. :001_smile

Mine had a minor issue with the handle, but it was quickly and professionally rectified by Dave at RestoredRazors in the UK. He also replated the posts as they were worn.

My bud AceByTerror was contacted from an ad he ran on Kijiji with a private sale last year. The older woman selling it had done her homework as to price as far as I can remember. Hopefully, he'll chime in on this post later and tell you the story. They are there! I think Brucered may have found his in wild as well.

I bought 2 off eBay and one here, and last summer i saw a few go for less than $150 no case...now that was a shocker.

I'm hoping to find one. I live in the melting pot of America so I might one day. I've found such diverse razors from Apollo, Hoffritz, Rolls, Wilkinson Sword seven day set to Gillette contract razor so it's been a nice mix. Who knows what tomorrow brings?

I suppose that being made here in UK it would be more likely to turn up a Red Ring at some second hand store over here - I've yet to find one though.

Incidentally, I've come across four variants now:

(1) Very early three-piece with Silver Plating, only made for a few years around 1933
(2) Extremely scarce three-piece with Chrome Plating - presumably only made for a year around 1935

The two above have the 'eclipse' logo on the head top

(3) Two-piece with eclipse logo on the head top - made from 1935 to 1939
(4) Two-piece without eclipse Logo on the head top - 1940 onwards (the earliest ad I have with blank head top is 1940)

So, even more intrigue around these interesting razors.

Harry's correct, but I've actually found TWO in the wild now. My first was in a photo of a large collection from an antique dealer's site. On closer inspection of the photo I spotted the red ring and took about 6 razors for a grand total of around $80 I think - including the Red Ring. A great deal as all the other razors were nice as well.

The second one was in response to my Kijiji razors wanted ad as Harry stated. The woman (in her nineties!) had indeed done her homework and wanted $90 for it. Her husband - who was alive and well was there when I came over to get it. He was the original owner of it! His father had bought it for him when he was around 16 years old. Nice people - I was happy to have it from them.

Anyone else notice.....all the Red Rings found in the wild, in this thread, are all found in Canada (Happyland = Winnipeg)

Hello, another Red Ring finder chiming in from Canada, I found one today at an antique market near me. I was happy to find it, and for a good price.

Hey King Bongo!

You're pretty close to me - what market did you find it in (if you don't mind telling).

I've hit every market in the region... or so I've thought!
