What's new

Ebay Sellers

I just feel like venting. Anyone with similar experiences can chime in if they want. Awhile back I was told by a seller he had a particular item (razor) I was interested in but would need a few weeks to get it as it was not at his residence. A few weeks pass and no reply so I contact him again, tells me it will still be another few weeks but assures me he will get it and let me know. A month goes by still no answer so I ask again and I'll tell you I was a little shocked and angry when he then tells me he has no idea what I'm talking about and haven't heard from him since. So either he flat out lied and got my hopes up for nothing or he sold it to someone else.

Ebay in general irritates me. How people bid, the overpriced nature of all the listings. and crap like that.

I rarely have a problem at eBay. But...I am a professional salesman. I work with professionals, and occasionally one of them will do something unethical. Most eBay sales folks are amateurs. People can be greedy. I suspect he already had a buyer who had not paid, so he kept you hanging in case the first person didn't pay. One reason I use eBay and PayPal is because I am about 90% protected.

Did you pay for it already? If so report a dispute in Paypal within 45 days. You get your money back for items "Not as described" or "Not received".

If the seller strings you along past the 45 day window then you can still file a claim by contacting Paypal. I've been buying and selling on eBay for over 10 years now. It's way outside the norm for a seller to list an item the do not have in their possession.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. That's pretty unacceptable. I made a purchase from a seller once who I bought from a few times before. My items never shipped and the seller didn't respond to my messages. After 3 weeks, I opened a case with ebay and I was refunded my money. The seller was very apologetic. As a buyer and seller on ebay, I think I've gotten more problems from buyers though.

That's what I think happened and it would have been nice if he had told me, I wouldn't have minded as much.

No, thankfully he didn't try to scam me.

I haven't had much of a problem, Except when I Ordered Toothpaste.
The Seller Accidently sent me Lysol Soap.
After a Week I Got My Toothpaste back from the person who should have gotten the soap, And The Money i spent mailing the soap was refunded to me.
No worries.

Ebay combines two of the worst possible things

Auctions and anonymity.

There is actually literature written about how people have brief lapses in sanity when they start bidding on ebay. People forget about their budget and even how much they even wanted the item. All that matters at that moment is the power they feel by outbidding another person. People even take being out bid as a personal insult and retaliate by out bidding that person.

Kind of hilarious actually.

And thats why I set my max bid and walk away.

 So true, I've seen so many ridiculous "bidding wars" over the past few years.

I've grown to hate the auction format of eBay. I hardly ever even look at them anymore since the BIN option was introduced. I would rather someone list an item, decide a price they want and put it up there. If I want the item for that price, I buy it then and there. If not, no hard feelings and I move on. No games, no waiting and wondering if I'm going to get hit at the last microsecond by some sniping program spamming bids and screwing me over.

On the opposite end of the overzealous bidders blowing their budget is the seller with their head in the clouds. In our context, it's the seller who starts out bidding (or a BIN price) at $300+ for a chipped, broken, rusty old razor that none of us here would buy for $5...because it's "RARE", "VINTAGE" and "COLLECTIBLE".

Yes, this is what happens sometimes on eBay! On the other hand, sometimes you can find a lot of products below their market value. DE Razors are in currently experiencing strong demand, so its unlikely for razors right now though.

Ebay can be a pain with the asinine bidding wars and shady amateur sellers but every once in a while a sweet deal will slip through the cracks. I just got a like new '56 tech in the original box for ten bucks shipped. Not sure how that one escaped the bid bots but I'll take it!

There are a lot of sellers that offer decently priced creams and soaps with free shipping too. You have to sort through a lot of nonsense on that site but with some persistence and luck there's good deals to be had.

I just have to chime in the thread. Any posts with live links will be deleted. Please refrain from this type of posting.

Carry On!!

Sounds like the guy never had the razor at all, and was just stringing you along while he tried to procure one.

I remember the first time I saw a snipe program used when I was trying to buy a razor. Stunned followed by frustration... Now I only do the BIN with the free shipping.
