Ebay deals exist?

I've been looking at Gillette DE prices on ebay and they are insane. Do people still find deals? Prices on Country Joe's seem to beat them all.

Any other places for good vintage DEs for using not collecting?

Yes. Just give me a PM anytime you are in need. If I don't have it I can help point you in the right direction.

Are there deals on ebay for vintage razors? Yes. You just have be patient and be willing to incur some risk (heavily corroded razor, mechanically NOT perfect, etc...)

Also some common sense logic helps find which auctions would possibly end up selling at a lower price: poor ending time (Sunday 1am PST?), poor photos (increases risk of course), poor description (ie seller just describes it as a dirty gillette razor but it turns out to be an English Rocket), or misspelling Gillette as "Gilette".

Of course, certain sellers on the buy/sell/trade sub-forum offer fair deals.

I got a near mint '76 superspeed last week for $10. Don't know if that's a "bargain" or not, but it's a razor I was hunting for and was glad to pay it.

Poor photos and poor descriptions can also lead to some useless junk. It all evens out. If you buy enough off eBay the good deals will be offset by the bad ones. Sadly enough, some big time eBay sellers root out most of the big deals and resell the better razors at a premium and pawn the horrid ones off on unsuspecting buyers. Just note how many razor lots are bought by eBayers with Feedback numbers in the thousands. Personally, I have only bought one razor off eBay and it was from a B&B member.

I've bought razors from Country Joe's and can recommend him highly. I've watched ebay a lot and I find his prices to be very fair. It is also fun to go there for the razor porn.

Well like any buying on ebay, due diligence and patience are required. I don't think the bad deals will even out the good ones unless one buys everything posted.

In any case, the short answer to the OP is still "yes" but ask around about reputable traders/sellers on B&B and save on the ebay hassle.

Agreed, but sadly too many new to the world of wet shaving do not have the experience necessary for due diligence and get hit with "too good to be true" deal or two. :frown:

I have been real satisfied with my DE razor purchases on Ebay. Yes, there can be deals on Ebay. And yes there are still good, reputable sellers on Ebay as well.

Use all the options available to you, eBay, Country Joe, Ruby Lane, our own B-S-T. I just last week got a very nice Fat Boy off of eBay for $18.00 shipped.
I've been looking for a FB for a very long time and wouldnt pay some of the prices wanted by ebay sellers. Be persistent, dont be discouraged and keep looking. Use a sniping service. On a fox hunt, the hunting is part of the fun.

There are deals to be had on eBay, but you have to be very patient. As has already been said, a good way to find a deal is to search using misspellings. Often sellers don't know what they have, so searching for a Gillette Rocket might not net you a Gillette Rocket. Also, get to know what certain razors look like. Often times sellers will list razors incorrectly and it behooves you to know that the razor listed as a Tech in a Tech box is actually a New Standard...or something along those lines.

Your last, and frankly best, option is to buy razors on the cheap (see: lots) and clean them up. A lot of the time there are great razors underneath a ton of soap scum and grime.

Be patient and control your RAD while searching the 'Bay and you'll find some good deals. You just have to beat the rest of us to them. :)

It is kinda fun but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. It is the thrill of the hunt. It is funny how many times a "Fat Boy" on the Bay is actually a slim. Also, the cases are often mismatched with the razor. The only time I really got mad was when an obviously different razor was shipped than the one in the photo. I made the seller take it back.

most of my razors were purchased in lots. so far $117 investment over 6 months equals 28 DEs to include 3 fatboys. the 2 adjustables were the most expensive ($18-20) but pristine condition. not all of them are perfect but all are in good working order. Been shopping the Bay for a while so you just need patience and wait for what you want. and a good snipe here and there helps too!!!!! damn I got it bad.........

Ebay can be a great source for DE's but there is always a risk. Here in the BST you know you are dealing with honest collectors.
