Eagle in Best or Duke 2 in Finest?

Gents,

Lee Sabini is still to reply to an email from 2 weeks ago so Plan B was to contact Mark @ Simpsons and request pricing on a couple of customs; an Eagle in Best and a Duke 2 in Finest.

I know the response will be "get both" but things being what they are I only can get one (at this time).

Despite my CH1 being a little disappointing in the beginning it's really broken in and between it and a TGN Finest 24mm I'm not giving my other brushes much love...and I'm feeling the call for another Simpson.

Any face latherers out there have either or BOTH of these and can give some objective comments? I understand YMMV from mine.

Thanks in advance gents.

Don't have either of them.

But.

An Eagle in Best sounds right!!! Quite right, actually!! (Have never tried Finest, though).

Please, let's know your final decission. With pics, if possible.

EDIT: And a Rover...???:sneaky2:

I am confused about the Duke 2 in finest b/c I have never seen a Simpson brush in finest. Did you mean 2-band or 3-band super?

I'm certainly no expert but the Eagle was the brush I wanted until a member here pointed out it only came in Pure. If you can get it in Best I bet that'd be a hell of a brush.

The legendary B&B 2010 Eagle in Best is a fantastic brush- a face latherer's dream as it were. Many shavers suggest that it is the same knot as a Chubby1 in Best in the Eagle handle, but I have never tried a Chubby1 in Best, so I am unable to comment.

I'm guessing that he means 2-Band?!

I greatly prefer the handle on the Eagle, and if he packs it the way that he packed the LE, it will be an amazing brush. I never loved the handle on the Duke series.

Interestingly I just received a reply from Mark with pricing as I was typing previous: his responses have been VERY timely.

Will let you know how I go - if anyone is keen to know what the quotes were PM me.

Thanks lads,

German - could you share some thoughts on the Eagle in Super (2-band)? Specs etc and general observations on performance? I'm assuming from the post that it's a strong recommendation...

Could you add approximate price to that list of specs? 'Cause that is a sexy beast but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I can say unequivocally that the Eagle in Best is ideal for face lathering. The Best grade hair combined with the density and loft of the Eagle 3 can't be beat.

Eagle is my favorite handle for face lathering bar none. The only reason I ever sold my Eagle Best LE was because I had Mark Young carve me a custom exotic wood Eagle handle and stuck a Simpson Chubby Super knot in it and didn't want the two of them fighting.

You'll be happy with the eagle handle with any hair in it. The only thing keeping me from buying myself an eagle in Pure is the fact that I just have too many brushes already. Dukes are popular, but frankly don't hold a candle to the Eagle in my opinion.
