Dorco ST301 - wow

Dull, tugging but not to a point you feel like stopping and swapping the blade.
As a reward I got a neck full of irritation (first one for me) as well patches of sore face that followed me for a full day.

Probably to worst shave I have ever had in my life. My wife told me that I should not buy something with a name like that...

A mild blade like the Dorco will probably work better in a razor that's on the aggressive side. What were you using?

I didn't care for the 301's in a milder razor such as the r89 at all, so much so I never even bothered with the 300's. After I bought my r41 I decided to try the 300's and I was shocked to get the great shave that I did out of them, good for about three shaves. I was so impressed that I went back and tried the 301's again. Mistake. Big mistake. They are good for one good shave if that. I have retired them to a "gift" if I ever pif anything :) lol

Progress @ 2.5-3 ... maybe I should have tried at higher setting. Not sure i want to repeat the experiment though.... thanks for the tip - I will keep it in mind when I feel adventurous next time.

I know there's not a lot of love around these parts for the Dorco, but I got damn near a BBS with a new one today after a very long hiatus.

Prepped with MRGLO and Vitos pre/post under CF Lavender (which, incidentally, I'm starting to like again). Loaded up the S3S with the 301 and had at it. I expected a very very mild shave, but I was pleased with how smooth and comfortable this blade was. It's good (not brilliant) on the first WTG passes, but where it really shines is on the buffing and touch-ups. It was almost like polishing with very fine sandpaper and I've got virtually no irritation from it.

I think the weakness with the Dorco is longevity - I may push it for a second shave, but I suspect it won't be anywhere near as impressive...but where it may come into its own is parked in my Slant or HD solely for buffing passes.

Now I have to go back and re-write all my blade notes...

I like the ST301, but it only lasts for about 3 shaves. Most of the other blades I use make it at least 4, and some average 7 or 8 shaves per blade. I won't be buying any more Dorcos, but they're not bad blades.

I prefer the 300's as well. I couldn't finish a shave with just one 301, the edge fell apart long before I finished. Too bad as they felt pretty nice, for a couple of strokes. The 300's seem to start out less sharp but the edge holds, three shaves here too, and though far from a fav blade not bad at all.

The 301's were the first blade I used. I had a 10 pack and used a few before I switched to another blade as I was getting consistently worst shaves than with my 5 blade cart. After I was more experienced shaving with DE's I tried the 301's again, and they were still s&!^. Never again.

I guess I am the odd man out that enjoys these blades. I do not get the closest shave, but I ALWAYS get a super comfortable shave in my R89. When I had the 301's they were my weekend blade.

Send em my way if you need proper blade disposal.

Not a DE guy, but I've used these in a Parker Shavette and love them. I think the note above is right. It benefits from an aggressive razor. Pairing is everything.

I got 29 shaves out of one Dorco 301 during this years "One Blade, One Month" challenge. I might do it again next year. I love Dorco blades.

I'm a little apprehensive about Dorco blades. I have seen mixed feelings about them in various reviews and even this forum. I usually use Personna Lab Blue blades which are pretty smooth and last about a month per blade for me. I have very sensitive skin however and depending on the blade I use in my Derby DE razor my face will either love me or hate me for shaving with a particular blade.

I bought a 10-pack of Dorco ST300 and ST301 about 2-months ago and have yet to try them. The were only $0.99 per pack and because of that I'm a little apprehensive. I guess I should try them to know for sure....

I don't know the 301 you mention. But I just last week started with the New Platinum ST300. And I am very happy with it: sharp, smooth shave. I had four shaves with it and look forward to the 5th tomorrow.

That is a feat for any blade! I guess it also depends on the type of beard you have and probably a few other variables...but wow!
