Dolce & Gabana Sport...opinions

I was scoping this out at Macy's this weekend. Light, yet manly. Seems like a good warm weather scent. Though it's relatively new, any opinions on it? Anything out there that compares that I sold also consider?

*Disclaimer* I haven't warn cologne/EDT in about 25 years. My sense of what's what in this area is a point of weakness. I bow to you all knowing olfactory gods.

Considering the overwhelming negative reviews, and the Macy's $73 price tag, I am sure you can do much much better in terms of aquatics.

Try Cool Water, and Aspen first, before spending $73 on a fragrance that is not receiving much praise!! Both Cool Water, and Aspen are reminiscent of the much raved about Creed Green Irish Tweed.

While I am not a fan, Aqua Di Gio is probably superior to the Dolce and Gabana as well. Aqua Di Gio is the number one selling men's fragrance at the moment.

I was not a fan of it. Though I am not fan of hardly any "sport" fragrances. I have had 2 different bottles of D&G Sport and ended up swapping them both. Realistically it is a nice smelling fragrance. Its fresh and simple. But that's. It is nowhere near good enough for the price tag marked on it though. And my big beef with it was the longevity. On myself and my buddy, who is also a fragrance carnosaur, we were lucky to get maybe 2 hours before its almost unnoticeable. If you wanna look for something kind of in the same category I would highly recommend YSL L'Homme Libre. Pretty much around the same price and a far far superior fragrance.

Thanks for the opinions. I appreciate the honesty. Where is a place to find the Aspen, Cool Water, YSL to test them?

Not sure about the Aspen as I am not familiar with it at all. Cool Water might be a little difficult to find to test. Its still pretty easy to find to buy at almost any place that sells cologne but I do not see many testers still out anymore. I would think any place that sold it though would be professional enough to somehow let you sample it regardless if they have a tester or not. If I still had a bottle I would offer to send a sample but I passed my bottle down to a friend some time ago. And the YSL you should be able to test at Dillards, Macys or Sephora. I can send you a sample from that from my bottle if you're not able to find it anywhere.

Also another you might want to consider is Lalique White (which I can sample for you also).

Cool Water, and Aspen are readily available at pretty much any drug store/ department store; both are readily found at your local Wal-Mart. Aspen is generally about $20 a bottle, and Cool Water around $30 a bottle (depending on size of the bottle). To the average person both smell nearly identical to Creed's Green Irish Tweed (which costs $100-$150 a bottle).

If you want to test them, rather than blind buy, I would check Walgreens. My Walgreens seems to have sample bottles of nearly everything they sell.

Edit:

Gary's Sample Shop
sells a sample of Aspen for $2 for 5ml, another good place to sample fragrances is Archerfire Decants.

Cool Water and Aspen are not really aquatic fragrances. I think they are classified as "Fresh Fougere". They are a lot better than any aquatic I have ever smelled. You can try Aspen at Wal Mart. They sell big 4oz bottles on Amazon for like $14. The newer YSL scents can be found at most department stores. Even Macy's should have them. They are really popular, although not my taste.

If you really liked the D&G (or more importantly, you wife or girlfriend liked it) than I say go for it. But since you said you are new to fragrances, I think there are probably some better choices for less than half the price.

One of the reasons it might be so expensive is because it is new. I would not be surprised if it it starts showing up on Amazon in a few months like several other of the D&G fragrances.

Even though I do not really like aquatics, I think Polo Blue is pretty decent. You may want to check it out. It is pretty popular and you can probably find it at Macys or even places like perfumania. To my nose, it just isn't as obnoxious and chemical smelling as a lot of the other aquatics out there.

Technically yes, they are not true aquatics. But they usually get lumped in with the aquatic fragrances. I was simply suggesting fragrances that are likely to be vastly superior to the Dolce and Gabana, and for a whole lot less money.

On the other hand, Cool Water is considered to be the grand daddy of aquatics, having created a new type of fragrance that led to a massive amount of clones.

I really like Cool Water and I have worn it several times. It has really horrible longevity on my skin though.....others here report that is has good longevity. Sucks for me....

I get a good four hours out of it, so I would say for me it's longevity is more than acceptable. :biggrin1:

I wear the D&G Light Blue and The One fairly often. I have not tried the sport but based on reviews would go with Light Blue for a good warm weather scent. It has that peppery, clean finish to it that gives it a manalier scent than an Aquatic.
You also can't go wrong with good old fashioned Eternity. Nice, light, and clean in warm weather.

Have you tried "The One Gentlemen"? I am not a huge fan of any of the D&G frags, but that one is without a doubt my favorite. I don't think is really smells anything like the original "The One" though. Maybe they just wanted to capitalize on the name again. I sent a decant of it to a member a few months back who sent me some stuff and he ended up loving it and buying a bottle of it right away. You can find it very cheap online.

not a huge fan of sport its a little fruity in the literal sense it has a fruit smell to it, not my style Im a more of a "clean" smell kind of guy

I am into fragrances and own quite a few. But I just don't do any of the "Sport" stuff. I am stiil trying to work out how a fragrance can be equated to doing "Sport." Almost every house makes a "Sport" these days, as if sporty people will go out and buy it to enhance their "sportiness"...Sorry, I just don't get it.
