Do your Astras come in cardboard or plastic?

I got some Astras from BullGoose a little while back and forgot about the discrepancy, but my 100 pack came in a cardboard box, with cardboard 5 packs inside. Others have said their Astras had plastic 5 packs. Has Gillette gone green and changed their production to cardboard? If so then awesome!

mmm, never heard or seen those, I have 3 different Astra here (Green/white plastic pack, Blue white plastic pack and Red/blue platic pack). Do you have a picture?

My first carton of Astra blades came in the plastic 5-packs.

My second carton came in the cardboard 5-packs.

The cardboard dispensers are easier to remove the blades ... the wrappers have a little more wax spots (not 'glue') on them. Otherwise, it is the same great blade.

And they're biodegradable. A win win. If no one posts a picture sometime soon I'll get one with my crappy camera.

For anyone on the fence about Astras, you should get some. I've not used Feathers for comparison, but these are cheaper and dominate all. Enough so I get an occasional twinge of guilt when reaching for the straight (note I said occasional ).

There was a thread on this awhile back, the newer production of Astras have indeed switched over to cardboard packaging from plastic.

Not that I have a opinion either way but I was always told when a company went green that they quit using things that were made from wood products? Unless it stated that it was made from 100% recycled products. I have some bags from Costco that are made from some kind of thick plastic the bags are reusable & say something about going green.

Paper/wood products are a lot more renewable than plastic, so cardboard containers are golden. These also have recycling signs all over them (although no indication if they are made from reprocessed consumer paper or not).

Here are the pics I promised. On the right are the old Astras, the left the new ones. I have noticed no difference in blade quality between the two.

I just got a delivery from letterk of a pack of Astra Superior Plantinums (super plats? maybe)... anyhow... cardboard packetts with 5 blades each. No plastic.

I am no expert by any means but have somehow, (I assure you no direct contact on my part)all of a sudden attracted a few "distributors" of razor blades. There are 3, 2 manufacturers and 1 distributors/seller sending complamentary blades. 2 have stated that there distributors are responsible for the packaging of the blades. In other words, I derived that the distributors pick the packaging of the blades they buy, (thru available options provided by the manufacturer) and pay accordingly. Different quantities have different options and prices. I haven't figured it all out yet but as I do if anyine interested will share.

Hi friends,
As you know it was a famous czech brand before Gillette bought it. Recently Gillette (P&G) bought the Astra DE Razor Blade co and producing St Petersburg Russia under the licence of Gillette . They are putting individually wrapped 5 blades in plastic dispanser early but nowadays they are switching their plastic Dispanser to cardboard like Astra Green White Superior platinum ,Astra Blue White superior Stainless, and lastly Astra Keramik Platinum Blades will switch to cardboard. So now you can find both plastic and cardboard now . just belongs to vendor stock. All Gillette DE products caming from st Petersburg in cardboard from now on.
Regards.

Still soaked in glue?

Good question. I have the old Astras in the plastic container and there is a boatload of glue on them.

I used a Shogun blade to scrape the glue off the Astra. It worked pretty well. God knows the Shogun blade doesn't have any other possible use.
