What's new

Do you always buy the whole line up of a product?

I bought the Proraso pre shave cream, soap, and AS a while ago and am now looking at ordering Speick, also purchasing the pre shave, soap stick, and AS as well as the cream just to give it a try.

I have this weird thing about buying products such as these that they all have to smell the same. For example My body wash has to smell the same as my AP. I couldn't use a almond soap and then a menthol AS. I don't know why this bothers me so much as the scent will be gone in 10 minutes and I'm just going to put on cologne anyway.

Is anyone else like this, that everything has to match and "work together"?

I feel like I'm maybe missing out on things due to stubbornness in this area.

It'd be nice but sometimes it's pricey so sometimes you gotta cut corners.

Also--smell the stuff and make sure you love it before you blow the cash on it.

This mornings shave:

MWF
AV Musk
Nivea CoQ10

Not me. I mix and match them based on how they work for me.
I pretty much always finish up with Thayer's Witch Hazel anyway.
I will however buy different scents of the same thing.
so in Trumper soaps for example, I'll try them all before I decide which one I would call my favourite.

I'm kind of the same way, at times, maybe, a little.

I do have the whole Proraso lineup, and when I use it I like to use it all, and I have recently started to enjoy my Safari soap, so I bought a few AS balms and am looking for the cologne.

I feel the same way, how can you mix smells and know that it smells good for sure? I would never be comfortable...the horror! But sometimes you gotta mix, haha.

I like to many different scents equally to pick out just one to use. Plus if I use one thing to often I get burned out on it faster. Not to mention I use WMF more often than not and I dont think lanoline aftershave sounds appealing at all

The Speick "pre-shave" is for pre electric shaving I believe.
It's not like the Proraso Pre-Post.

I usually try to match the soap and aftershave brands/scents:

Speick Day
Lime Day
Proraso Day
Arlington Day etc, etc

I'm usually tempted to buy a line up of items as I work under the assumption that they're designed to work together. However, I typically use the "best of breed" philosophy for my purchases or in other words, I buy what I think is the best. In almost all cases, such selected products work well enough with each other.

I enjoy using the whole Proraso line up and have thought about buying others but have restrained. I like my T&H 1805 cream but can't bring myself to part with the $$ to buy the 1805 AS and colognes. For the same $$ I could buy half a dozen decent aftershaves and be spoilt for choice :001_smile

In the winter I'll do a Proraso "Mega-Shave" with pre-post, cream or soap (green or white tub), splash then the balm. They need an Edt and some sort of bath soap +shampoo to complete the ensemble.

Also--smell the stuff and make sure you love it before you blow the cash on it.

Here in lies my problem though. I order this stuff online as there is no where near me to purchase or test anything out and for me to order 1 thing only to find out I want more, I end up paying double the shipping!

I will usually start with one product in the line. If I like that product I will definitely try the others; and in the case of Proraso, the pre/post, followed by the cream, followed by the AS makes for a wonderful start to a Spring morning.

Oh yea, I have the Gillette...

1.Sensitive Face Wash
2.Thermal Pre-Scrub
3.Gillette canned goo shaving Gel
4.Intense Cooling Lotion

Not! :thumbup1:

I mix and match too. I vary scents every day. The most important thing to me seems to be choosing the AS, because that's what I'll end up smelling like. It's not uncommon for me to select a Rose TOBS shave cream because I feel like smelling it as I shave and choose something like an Aqua Velva for its cooling sensation on a hot day or the silky feel of a Pinaud Clubman for a cooler day.

YMMV that's how I tend to pick.
