Do Bowl Matter in Building Lather

Right now I have a couple of simple bowls that I use. Both are plastic, one is a bit rough and the other smooth. I was thinking of getting a nice bowl made out of Japanese urushi lacquer which got me to wondering if the material of the bowl makes a difference. What are the thoughts?

That's what I use when I bowl lather. the design is different, otherwise identical. I think those are a nice size for most brushes, unless you have a monster brush.
