Do any of you shave without a mirror?

I was just curious if this was fairly common or if it was just me. I just don't use a mirror. I never have. When I got into wet shaving, the whole thing looked like a delicate operation, so I got myself a nice fog-free mirror for my shower, because that's where I shave (I turn the water off of course; keeping in steamy environment always gave me the best results). I use my mirror when I lather my face, but when I'm shaving I notice that I'm never actually looking in the mirror. I shave by touch: if the blade feels good on my skin, and my skin feels smooth afterwards I'm good.

I was just wondering if anyone else is the same way.

I shaved in the shower (with the water running) without a mirror with the M3 but with the DE I'd rather build my lather at the sink so I use the mirror.

i dont shave infront of a mirror to see blade angle or anything, i just do it so that my sideburns are even, but yeah, i can shave without a mirror, i just chose not to , unless i;m in the shower

I could do it with my DE (not my straight though) but prefer to have a mirror. Those that enjoy shaving in the shower can get a small fogless shower mirror.

due to facial hair designs i shave with a mirror, when i was clean shaven and used fusion i did not use one. probably would not need one if i did not have facial hair as angle is not so hard with a DE after some practice (never would with my straights though).

I used to shave in the shower in my school locker room without a mirror. I did this for about six months. I would get good shaves, but things improved a bit when I looked in the mirror. This was especially true on the neck.

I would shave with my fusion power and canned cream while I was more or less half asleep in the shower with my eyes closed. Nowadays, no :bored:

I never look in the mirror when shaving around my lips - just go by feel.

Of course, the docs in our local ER know me on a first name basis now.

I could do it with my open comb, but would never prefer to not use a mirror. With my Slant - no way - just for the fact that I may end up with slanted sideburns.

man you guys are good no mirror at all.. i would look like swiss cheese without a mirror. come to think of it i do look like swiss cheese somedays when i am running late..:w00t:

I have exceedingly poor sight even with my glasses on, but I have always shaved without them (they get in the way and get steamed up anyway!) when anything further than about 3 inches away is fuzzy. After I stopped shaving during my shower (decided it was a massive waste of hot water) the mirror over the sink allowed me to at least see where the lather was (most useful once I was finished and wiping my face clean!) but mostly it was done by feel.

A few months after I switched to a DE and proper shaving cream and soap, I got a purpose-made shaving mirror with a 3 times magnification which I can move to within my limited range of vision. This has proved very useful in manipulating the razor around the delicate bits like lips and under the nose.

In a rush I've done a couple of quick passes with the DE in the shower sans mirror and I've yet to cut myself, so the DE technique must come mostly from feel.

I should add that a very simple way of keeping the mirror clear is every couple of days put a few drops of liquid soap on a cloth and wipe the mirror with it. Don't bother to wipe off the suds - it works like a charm.

I have always and probably will always use a mirror. I don't think I'm skilled enough not to. Besides nicks I don't know how good of a shave I would get.

I shave by touch when I'm in the shower at the YMCA.
Some folk look at me askance. They think I'll slash my throat...
:)

I think it is a fine ability to shave by touch. It makes you aware of the hair direction and you can chart your face.

Just started DE shaving in the last several weeks due to the crazy expense of multi-blades. Started off with the '56 Gillette Superspeed my step-father used in the Air Force. However, I have a pencil stache and decided to try an open-comb. Got a Merkur 25C and like it very much because I can get in really close and it does a great job. But all of that is off-topic...

Before I switched to DE, I never used a mirror to shave except to touch up close around my moustache. In trying DE and to avoid the prospect of carving myself up like a rib-roast I played with using a mirror for awhile. I was not getting the results I was accustomed to and shaving was taking wayyy too long. I think the idea of shaving being a ritual is really nice.. - on Sundays when I have time.

To make a long story short, the first decent DE shave I got was inadvertently without the mirror with the open comb and an Astra blade and bar soap while in a hurry. I just threw all the rules out the window and reverted to my old ways with my new DE razor. However, it took me an extra week of so-so shaves to figure out that the going by feel as I always had before and not using the mirror was producing the best results. This morning, I used no mirror with the open comb, a Feather blade and got perfect results. Only one minor weeper. It took me that little extra to figure it out because I never really thought much about how I shaved before. I just did it.

I've got a ridiculous beard that has to be shaved twice per day - Ugh. I use lots of steam, hot h2o and Alba very emollient cream shave (now, instead of bar soap). I do this thing where I run the razor with one hand, then feel with the opposite hand for smoothness after almost every stroke. If there isn't enough cream already in my non-razor hand, I relocate some from elsewhere on my face and hit it with the razor side again if it's rough. Being ambidexterous, I can do either task with either hand. One hand shaves, the other senses roughness and applies cream. I do two thorough passes in the shower (one down, one up), then touch-up my stache in the mirror I get out of the shower.

That's it! Basically, find using the mirror more of a hassle. I get better results without it and leave the shower on to keep my body warm and making steam while I shave (New England is cold and we keep the heat low to save oil). I sacrifice enough wearing sweaters in the house all winter. Besides, I use an ultra high-efficiency misting shower head, and we have a well water anyway. Easier to rinse the razor every so often that way too. Just reach back and hold it under the nozzle. I can shave in about 4 minutes flat that way.

I'm Still Recovering from a Broken ankle (which is why I haven't posted on here much since the end of October.) and while I can now walk on it some, I still am not as steady as I'd like.
So when I Shaved yesterday, I Sat down And I Didn't use A mirror.
Usually I'll Use A Mirror.

with time, I find myself taking off my glasses, 'bending at the waist' trying to closer to the cabniet mirror as I shave. At times, I sit on the toilet seat and use our counter-top mirror (bought from our local Walmart), that is lighted, has one side normal and one side magnified (7X), that works great for us.
