Dirty Bird scuttle: web vs. spiral, opinions?

I am looking at purchasing a shaving scuttle and have narrowed it down to a Dirty Bird original scuttle.

I am debating the web pattern vs. the spiral pattern of ridges in the inner bowl.

Has anyone tried both (or something similar) and could give a recommendation?

Thanks!

Someone here reported that the web pattern produces lather easier.

I think that the spiral looks better so that is what I ordered.

I honestly don't think it will make that much noticeable difference between the two. I had a Robert Becker scuttle with a spiral, and now a DB scuttle with the web, and I can't say I noticed any differences between them in lathering ability. What really does help is a larger lather bowl. If I ever replace the DB, I'm going to go with the 1.5 option instead, I'm pretty sure.

Thanks for the information.
I totally agree that the spiral looks better than the web.
I have only found one post of someone who had both and they preferred the spiral to the web saying that the web was unnecessary.

Excellent points.
I had been staying away from the 1.5 just because people complained about how much counter space it took up. I was also looking at how much water I would have to use to pre-heat it and refill it (30 oz. at a time vs. 16 oz. at a time for the original size).
Your post made me pull out a ruler and take a look at what that 4.5 inch lather bowl size would be like compared to the 3.5 inch lather bowl. I have to say the 3.5 inch bowl looks like it would be pretty small, but then some people like that size lather bowls.
Thanks for the post.

I got moves like Jagger
Whatever turns you crank the most is what to order. You can easily generate lather in the sink or a cereal bowl, so the web/spiral might help do it faster, but shouldn't affect the quality of the lather you build.

Thanks for the post.

If you have a large shaving brush, such as the Vulfix 2236 for instance, you'll definitely want the larger sized bowl.

I also just received mine. Really enjoying it so far. The all blue looks really nice.

I have a 1.5 scuttle with webs and a hand bowl made with the spirals. Both make lather really well, but I find the webs make it much easier. You really can't go wrong either way, but if I had to pick one over the other, it'd be webs all the way.

I've only seen two tone offered on the Dirty Bird site, have those of you with single color scuttles just requested that she only glaze in one color?

I have the standard size DB scuttle and opted for the web design and it works just fine.

I haven't tried a scuttle with the spiral design, so I've no basis for comparison. I agree that it sometimes would be nice if it were larger, particularly with big-knotted brushes, but even the standard size scuttle consumes a fair amount of vanity top real estate. All things considered, I'm very happy with my DB scuttle.

I went to the DirtyBird Pottery website (http://www.dirtybirdpottery.com/) and sent an email to Julie asking here what colors were available. I also asked he how I could get a solid
color scuttle (since I had seen a few on the B&B website). This is what she told me to do: "If any of these [color choices] work for you go ahead and order the piece from my website. Accept the default color and on the last page of the checkout process, just before paying, click on the button titled 'Add special instructions to seller' and put a note to remind me of the change."

When I placed the order, I missed the link to add special instructions, so I sent her an email after the fact specifying my color choice with the details of my original order including my shipping address and she modified the order for me.
