I'd heard not the greatest things about it. I was sent a sample. I am in love. It's a little bit of rose like from C&S No. 88. It's there, but it's not as knock you over as 88. I'd heard it as a lighter version cologne. No, it's not a heavy hitter like 88 or Leather Oud by Dior. However, it's not a benchwarmer, either. This thing lasts and blasts all day long. You get a lot of Oud whiffs throughout the day. You'll recognize it, smells just like the Oud in Leather Oud. If Dior Leather Oud and C&S No. 88 are two scents you like, you'll like OI. Like I say, I'd stayed away because I was under the impression it was kind of wimpy and short lived. WRONG. This stuff rocks. I'd get a full bottle of this over LO. Reason being I couldn't wear LO every day. This one...every other day probably.

I like this one too - not as much as leather oud, but I like it. The knocks I saw on it were that it's 'just another' oud-rose frag (synthetic oud - rose for the true oud-heads around here ;-)) That may be so, but it wears really nice. It doesn't have the projectikn of Black Aoud, but longevity is really good and it's very smooth.

Yes...smooth is a way to put it. Very smooth. To me it's the same Oud as waht's in Leather Oud. That being said, is Leather Oud said to contain synthetic Oud? I've heard it described as more of the actual wood (aloeswood) that produces the Oud oil, rather than the processed oil from aloeswood trees itself. Which, when I describe it, doesn't make sense to me, the way I understand Oud. If Oud is the oil from the tree, the tree itself could not be called Oud. I dunno. It's good stuff though.
In addition to oud oils there are oud wood chips that are burned and the smoke used to scent things - like clothes. What I'd heard regarding Leather Oud was the intent was to capture the smell of the wood chips rather than the smell of oud oil. I've never smelt the burning wood chips but Leather Oud definitely has a smoky wood component to my nose. Not sure how Dior achieves that smell but I'd bet it's synthetic. Was actually doing google searches about this today and saw reference to Kephalis an Iso-E-Super substitute with a woodier/smokier scent. Don't know if LO contains Kephalis but if not it's likely something similar.
Its real Oud not synthetic smelling.

Leather Oud, as nice as it is, doesn't smell like oud being burnt.
Also, oud should not be burnt so much as gently heated.
The first thing I smelled when I smelled Leather Oud was oud wood being burnt not oud oil as in 90% of oud perfumes in the market.
We've been burning oud for centuries..... I'm Arab.
Ohh and not gently heated but it shouldn't be set on fire either. Like bbq coals.

wood chips, then...not the wood. i can't remember all i read. ha ha. i knew it was something like that...thanks for clearing that up for me. wow, learning a lot on this. very cool.
I really liked Oud Ispahan when I smelled it in HK. I prefer it over Black Aoud, of which I own a 50mL bottle. BA is just a little too harsh, and the aoud note can really overpower the rose sometimes.
Only the fact that there are so many Rose/Aoud combos out there at the moment (OI, BA, NdN, No 88) kept me on path to stick with buying one bottle (Leather Oud) from the Dior boutique.

So, you missed out on Dior Vetiver?
I liked it more than I thought I would (I prefer my vetivers smokey and dark); and I was especially impressed with Patchouli Imperial (for a man that doesn't like primarily-patch scents) but neither warranted purchasing at that point.
I'm still having regrets about not buying Cedre Olympe or Cuir Amethyste from the Armani Prive collection. That whole line is damned good.
