Did Gillette make a combination set in 1907? (with pics:-))

I've just received a combination set (incomplete) and the razor dates to 1907, just wondered if they made the set that early or if the razor is older that the rest?

The case is in poor nick but the razor is ok for its age. Any info would be appreciated (not as much as the missing piece tho:thumbup:)

It's a single ring alrighty, dates to 1907. Looks like Im going to have to carry on buying stuff until all of my razors and cases match!

I picked it up for less £2.95 which is madness considering the price of a double ring.

if the date is on the baseplate you may have a 1910 combo kit

made in my homeland and it may be a matching set

if the case is metal on the outside then something is off on the years, if it is black lined you may be fine, im only looking at Mr. Razors site its not definitive but always a good place to start a search but the diamond logo inside case started around 1909 1910 before it had the script lettering

I'm betting what you've got there is a British-made Single Ring, and so its serial number wouldn't match up with the US series that's on the wiki. If it were an American-made razor I would expect a serial number that low to be on the barrel and not the guard plate. You should be able to tell one way or the other by the patent inscription on the handle.

Sorry my mistake its a Canadian razor and I've mis-dated it on the US date chart.

Is there a date checker for Canadian serial numbers?

Ah, well there you go then. Can you read the "Made in..." imprint above the diamond logo on the case headliner? It looks pretty worn in the photo, and I can't make it out well enough to see if it's also marked as Canadian.

Is there a date checker for Canadian serial numbers?

Unfortunately, no, not that I'm aware of. And they seem to have made it more difficult by using different prefixes at different times out of a straight sequence.

the set is def this set, but for date codes i dont think there is a good guide to match canadian serial numbers up to the dates, or at least none i have found, most of the info we have comes from three books and i think all authors were american and did their research and dating in the USA

but the set on the site has an inspectors signature and date saying oct 13 1910 on it which is how that particular set was dated
it may be the best info your going to be able to get

the earliest Ad I know from this set is the 1909 catalog:
