dg de blades anyone?

Have any of you ever used the dollar general double edged blades,
its the only blades i have used so far,
i was just wondering how others felt about them,
they are 1.00 for 5 blades.

Sure, I've used them. They are currently being made by ASR and are okay. There are better blades to be found but there are certainly worse as well, IMHO.

BTW- Welcome to B&B...if you check the reviews forum you will find a great deal of information regarding blades.

thanks alot, i looked through them and couldnt find
one on these blades so thats why i asked.

I have used the DG blades (made by ASR) and actually like them. At .20 each and no shipping they compete with most internet-marketed blades.

Compared to the other ASR-manufactured blade available at Wal-Mart (Personna) I find the DG blade to be smoother on the initial shave - the WM blade tends to tug a bit for the first few strokes. I find both ASR blades to give me about four or five good shaves per blade.

Once the shave quality starts to drop, it falls fast. But, for the price and convenience, I don't turn my nose up at them!

The dollar general blades are all I use now. The ones from cvs seem the same but are expensive in comparison. I get great shaves but I am curious as to what the "better" blades are compared to the ones from dollar general.

I find the White Wilks very mediocre. Better blades, IMHO: Feathers, Iridiums, Astras, BICs, Rapiras... others like Derbys, Bluebirds, Red IPs. Just a short list of the options available. Blade choice is very subjective. You might want to try a blade sampler pack from one of the many vendors.

The DG blades I looked at this weekend say "Made in Korea" on the package.

At one time I believe they were ASR, but the ones available around here (IL) *I think* are Dorco's now.

i will eventually get a sample pack probably, when ever i can get the money to get one, but also i have just got to the point where i dont get any nicks or cuts. only shaved 4 times

I understood that the DG's used to be Dorcos but are now ASRs. I haven't seen DG-branded Dorcos for ~ 1 1/2 years. Maybe some here has the definitive scoop?

I'll check the pack I bought a few weeks ago, but I recall they said "Made in Korea." I have found them to be about as good as the Dorco ST-301, and better than the ST-300.

When I started wet shaving with a DE in April 2008, the DG blades said "Made in Israel" - boy! were they great. As good if not better than the IPs/Crystals. Alas, they were gone by summer.

Their replacements may have been ASRs made in the US, but there was no specific "Made in . . ." country of origin labeling on the package.

Thanks Bob.

I remember the "Made Israel", then the "Made in Korea" but lately all I have found are unlabelled, assumed to be ASRs. ???

The blade container for ASR, and Dorco looks pretty similar, so without a country of origin marked on the packaging, it might be difficult to tell.

I bought the Family Dollar blades, and they said made in Korea. I tried the Dollar General blades about three months ago, and I was pretty certain they said made in Korea as well.

As for the blades themselves, they were rather rough blades considerable less smooth than a Red IP, Bluebird, or Derby.
