"Designer stubble"

I can't go that route.
If I don't shave, I look like a bum, maybe a hobo.

No offense intended to bums or hobo's. I'm sure there are some that are well shaven.

The last couple of weeks my new straight razor was "going to be here tomorrow" so I was not shaving frequently so that I could present the new razor with formidible stubble. I do not shave my chin because my wife likes me to have a goatee (or whatever you call it). So when that's there and you don't shave the rest of your face you look even worse in my opinion.

That said I generally shave once every 3-4 days. My beard doesn't grow terribly fast and my facial hair is darn near blonde so it's pretty hard to see anyway. Last night on the way back from the store my wife said... "You need to shave." I told her I was saving up to shave this weekend with the new straight. She wants to have the ambulance on standby...

Oh, and a meeting cropped up out of nowhere and I get to go in front of senior management begging for about $10 million in unplanned funding. Thankfully it's only a quick five minute deal but I'm still wearing tennis shoes and haven't shaved since Saturday. Oh well!

Celebrities influence the way people look. Marlon Brandon, Paul Newman and James Dean were always clean shaven. Today many celebrities have stubble, even more look like they just rolled out of bed.

It's not lazy, it's fashionable to look partially unkempt. LOL
It's a phase, like massive jeans belted around the thigh and the 'I don't give a damn' strut. Oh wait, do people still do that? No, now it's the super tight jeans that will insure you never procreate--probably for the best in most situations.

Just one extreme to another.

Here's another one, Russell brand. For some reason I just want to put him in a hurt locker..

My wife prefers my facial hair long enough to keep trimmed, and to have it trimmed, or shaved completely. I wear a goatee and mustache, if I let it get too long then she is upset, and if I shave it off the she is upset.

I refer to that look as 'shabby Chic'. It's about as attractive as an un-made bed, IMO. There's something to be said for not looking like a vagrant.

This is the look I go for and I have no problems with it. Im in my 20's so I can still pull this off. I dont really trim it though, don't own clippers - if it gets too out of hand Ill just take it all off.

One thing that is totally unacceptable is neck hair though. I have the stubble with no neck hair so I can create a border along the chin line - gives really good definition to the face.

These days, rocking even the lightest stubble drives me crazy. The fact that my stubble has been getting thicker and after about a day or so, growing faster than ever before, doesn't help me much.

Silver lining? I appreciate BBS shaves much more. :tongue_sm

This website might be handy for those of us who are looking to convert from DE to Designer Stubble (DS) shaving. Maybe we could start a new B&B category...or maybe one of us could even start a new forum altogether!

An exciting preview of the new Designer Stubble category or forum:

This guy couldn't afford a roof over his head, a haircut, or a square meal, but he managed to stay clean-shaven.

I take my electric with the guard on 2 (which has no meaning to you until you know the razor) to my beard every week or so before I shower. Keeps it close, but probably wouldn't be considered "designer stubble." Just a touch longer than Mr. Brand (who is funny IMO...I try to even up the comments) up there. Since I look 5 without a beard and really like having a beard, I keep a beard. Naturally.
