What's new

Derby Extra's. They work for me.

At least the first one out of the pack is. Using it in my Gillette Redtip, I've gotten 4 of the best shaves I've had so far. My other blades are Wilki's and Personna's from Sall Beauty Supply, and I always get nicks and rawness from them.

Glad to hear it! I've also heard before that Derby works well in the Super Speed. Strangely, it's not a combo I've tried. I've only used them in my Merkurs, where I disliked them in the 34C HD, and found them very pleasant in the 37C Slant. I sense another personal experiment ahead. Thanks and good luck!

I've found them to be a great blade in my 1921 New Standard. I haven't tried them in any other razors yet, but I didn't have any others that were still searching for a blade they match up with. I know I'll be keeping Derby Extras in stock.

I love erby blades as well.. They are very reasonably priced , right now $11.95 for 200 blades on amazon and free shipping.. Less than 6 cents per blade..

Reasonably priced? That's like stealing them and only paying for the gas the get away car used!

Derby blades are a great bargain and they seem to work reasonably well in most razors. They are my top pick in my R41.

If you find them satisfactory, feel pleased as you will save a LOT of money sticking with that brand of blade!

I like Derby's too. I think they are another one of those products that somehow became the whipping boy. Maybe because they are the first blade for many when starting out and they get blamed instead of technique. As always YMMV

I like Derby blades and used one this morning in fact. Derby and the Lord SS blades are both very good for me at any price. I keep a good stock of both.

Used a Derby in a Fat Handle Tech this morning. Worked great. I just can't use them in a modern razor where they irritate, skip and don't shave worth a darn.

This could very well be. I tried them early on and thought they were scratchy at first. Probably just as my technique got better I tried the Astra's which I thought to be night and day compared to Derby's. I've tried many blades since then and though I definitely have my favorites Astra's remain towards the top for their combination of smoothness, closeness and ability to perform in most any razor. Then a week or so ago I tried a Derby again for the first time since I started DE shaving. I used it in a R41 and got an excellent shave! I have yet to try the Derby in another razor yet as I have been exclusively shaving with the R41 for 3 weeks now but your point is definitely worth some consideration.

Seems like they work consistently well in more aggressive razors. I should have at least tried one in my Redtip before I traded it off.

New to DE shaving, 2 weeks of shaving. Used the Derby's with my Merkur 1904 classic, great shave! Then I used a personna blade with a FATBOY, not nearly as good.
Still have 6 razors to try out! King of the RADs.

I was PIF'ed a blade sample pack and used a Derby first off and found it gave a great smooth shave! I used them in both a SS and EJ89.

These work very well for me in a Gillette Tech and NEW.
They are very thin and flexible so in razors with a lot of exposure (not gap) they bend a bit, at least that was my impression.

I get my best shaves from Derby's, I do cork them on a synthetic cork first to take down the already smooth edge to an even smoother edge. No pulling or irritation at all. I set my SA at 7 and can go to 9 (5 max on the ole noggin) with a blade with a few shaves without problems . I do get three good shaves from a blade but since I am a head shaver as well, that would make six or more face shaves from a single blade.

They are not my favorite blades though, Treet carbon steel blades are the best but I can get weepers if not very careful.
