Dealing with Bacne

What's a good treatment for treating bacne. My back has recently started breaking out pretty badly. I think a lot of it has to do with the recent heat wave and I've been sweaty quite a bit of the day. What should I do to keep it at bay? Use a different soap (I currently use Irish Spring)? Loofa instead of washcloth?

Although I have never had back acne, many people swear by soaps containing neem for acne treatment. There are several Indian herbal soaps with neem.

Here's something I found after a quick Google search.

Of course, YMMV and there are many varieties to choose from, but it's worth a shot to try something like this before you go to a dermatologist IMO.

Well, the first step is to discontinue the use of steroids.

But, in all seriousness, my pores get clogged pretty quickly. 26 years old and still dealing with it. Definitely would recommend the loofah to exfoliate.

Try shampooing and conditioning BEFORE you wash the rest of your body. The residues from them can make you breakout.

Shampooing AFTER bathing has never even been on my radar. People do that? I guess it's just something my mom instilled in me: wash top to bottom, but save the privates for last.

I think I should meet your mom. She sounds like a wise person.

I'd vote for benzoyl peroxide for bacne. Normally I'd suggest trying weaker treatments first, but backs tend to be pretty thick skinned and not so sensitive.

I've heard this before, but it doesn't work. I tried an entire load of half dozen tubes of cream for 2 months. Religiously after two showers in the morning and night, followed by religious drying and then application of the BP cream on my back. Not much difference.

Will give Neem soap a try.

I used to have a problem, but started using a brush on a handle during showers. I give my back a good scrubbing and it mostly went away. I also put rubbing alcohol on my back a few times a week - I think it helps.

I know a guy who is 'blown up' on steroids like some type of cartoon character.

This guy has the worst bacne I have ever seen. When he lays on the bench to do bench presses, it pops massive grape sized ance. It gets all over his towel. One of the more disgusting things I have seen in life

Try showering twice a day and use a brush to scrub your back. It is hard to reach the whole back.

Wow, that guy sounds like a jerk. Well, he's spreading bacteria even with that towel. Once he picks his towel up the first time, it's bound to hit something. He lays it down on the next machine and it could brush against something. Jeez.

Use an Alum block on the parts you can get to after a shower and an alum crystal deodorant spray to get to the parts you can't, should help due to its anti-bacterian properties

Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub is working for me. It takes some time to work, though. I've been using for a little over a month and am finally seeing positive results. So, if you try it, you have to be patient. There's also a non-scrub version.

The Dr. Oz show today dealt with this (among other things). .... Recommended using a shower pouf (doesn't harbor bacteria) and to make sure you always rinse your back off last and thoroughly. His expert said that many people forget to rinse their backs last and thus there's shampoo and/or conditioner residue left on the back which then clogs pores and causes problems.

The expert also suggested acne cream applied with a cake spatula, but remember that will bleach your clothes.

Thanks for the responses, my back has cleared up quite a bit now. I think it was mainly due to being sweaty all day a few weeks ago, I moved into my house at school and with 90 degree humid days and no a/c I was sweaty a lot. I also stopped using Irish Spring and switched to Dr. Bronners and I have been letting my back get hit with more water during the shower.
