DE razor for detailing?

Hi everyone, ok so 2 weeks into DE shaving and im enjoying it. Shaves are far from perfect and getting some soreness occasionally or missing bits and certainly not bbs but still it's enjoyable learning.

Something I've noticed is that I find the head of a DE razor (currently a super speed) a bit and awkward for really getting clean lines on my beard. I have a bad head and beard like this (note picture is not me, just a random google image) click here

My beard is kept a little shorter and cleaner on lines, length is done with a beard trimmer but the lines of my beard where it ends and the edges are always done with a razor every 2 days when I shave. My old sins include using a Mach 3 and Sensor Excel (which i still use for my head as it's pretty good), both razors with small heads meant i could get really clean lines under my chin, down the side of sideburns on the side nearest my ears. The bit between my bottom lip and chin is kept clean too unlike the guy in the picture and the DE nearly takes up that whole space making it tough to work.

Look forward to hearing if anyone else has a similar situation and what they use.

I shaved my beard off, to have more to shave, believe or not. When I did have a beard, I had a full one and only shaved the bottom part of my neck and below my cheekbones, where the beard was not really a beard. This virtually eliminated "manicuring". I did use a an electric trimmer to shorten it, to avoid the ZZ Top look.

Peter a nice chap on the forum who I acquired my SS from also suggested a tech too, are they hard to get hold of. Not seen many myself, I'm in the UK. If anyone u.s or uk, worldwide etc has one they want to sell let me know. I need to look them up in more detail to see if they are ideal, sounds like they are.

maybe something like a tech - they have tiny thin heads (and are great razors)

+1 Exactly what I was going to suggest. TTO's have rather high profiles. The Tech is remarkably flat - I always keep one out in case I'm in a rush and need to touch up the upper lip.

They are widely available in the US at very reasonable prices. And on ebay for shipping and a smile.

If a Tech doesn't do it, do what I do and use a simple disposable with no lube strip...for just edging they last forever. I use a really cheap and thin-headed disposable they sell here in Japan, but I would imagine that a Bic sensitive would do as well.

I have to buy a new pack of 5 about twice a year.

Thanks for everyones help. I think I'll grab a tech from what everyone has said and see how I get on. If not, 'jansob's idea isn't a bad one for literally just finishing up, seems a shame if I can't use a DE though.

I had trouble at first if I wanted to sport a goatee. But once I got the hang of my HD (main razor I use) it works better than any cartridge ever did.

It is a larger head, so getting around things takes a little getting used to, but if can cut a perfect line, which is tough for a multiblade. Plus, the edge of the blade is exposed, so you get a more defined edge.

FWIW, I also have a SS which is a little more difficult to edge with.

Was about to say just this! :)

DE's give a much sharper edge and it's super easy to judge because the blade is exactly where you think it is (unlike with carts).

I used a tech to shave my neck and jawline when i ran a beard, it was the easiest way to manage it. They're also great for the moustache area, no risking a big angle and ending up with razor burn. :>
