D.R. Harris Arlington.. the lather

I almost gave up getting a good lather with D.R. Harris Arlington soap with my semogue brush. I was using bowl lathering and could not get that thick, luxurious lather that many have talked about. I had recently gone to the "Art of Shaving" store in which it was demonstrated to me how to get lather from a soap puck with a silvertip badger by "palm lathering". I knew I had to try this at home with the D.R. Harris. Amazingly enough.. it worked well. Now I don't know what causes the difference between bowl and hand lathering with this, but .. who cares? I know how I am preparing this lather from now on.

For whatever reason, when I bowl lather it seems to inject more air into the lather, making it fluffier than I like. I got into wet shaving about 2 years ago, and since then I've always gotten consistently better (denser) lather from palm lathering, with all my soaps and creams. Whatever works best for you, go with it.

I have a DR Harris Arlington shave stick and get an excellent lather roughing up the stick with a brush under hot running water. The best kind of brush for that IMO is finest badger. I find silvertips too soft to rough up the hard stuff.

Today, we read about others' experiences on the internet with a certain soap and expect it to work the same for us. Back in the day, we'd just grab something at the store and learn how Dad used it. Now we know there are better soaps than the local places carry and different ways to get great lather.

Absolutely true!

I palm lathered a few times but it's never as good for me as face lathering. I ditched my bowl long ago and face lather exclusively. Maybe you should give this a shot with your Arlington. For me, it's the absolutely the easiest to get a consistently rich and thick lather.

I got moves like Jagger
I can't get a super creamy lather from it (I know, "use more product"), but my skin feels VERY nice afterwards and the scent hangs around me for a few hours, so it gets a  from me.

I agree. Face lathering is the way to go.

To what other product you ar comparing the Arlington to? I face-lather and find the D.R.Harris soaps at the top of my list but hey, I love modern Williams as well so that won't help you one bit. What product does give you a satisfactory lather and why? It could be anything really, from the amount of product and/or water you use to the amount of time you invest.

I face lathered Arlington this morning and had my usual luxurious amount of lather. I hope that the OP can get the soap/water ration right for his water and enjoy this fine soap for the great product that it is.

Regards,

Doug

Just tried D.R. Harris Arlington today with my Semogue 830...loved it. A great soap with a sophisticated and delightful scent.

Fridays are Fishtastic!
I haven't bowl lathered in ages. Face lathering is where it is at. It is the best way, IMO, to judge water content, and is gives the product more time to work on the beard.
