Cyril R Salter Classic Almond Shave Cream, any opinions?

I want to try an almond scent and I am undecided between this and people's favorite Taylor of Old Bond Street.

Any experiences with any of these you want to share?

I haven't tried Salter's Almond, but I have used Salter's French Vetyver and the Indian Sandalwood, and both produced a really rich, slick lather. I've also used several TOBS scented creams, although not Almond. I've generally felt the quality of the Salter's shaving creams were better in terms of slickness and cushion than TOBS, and the scents of the two I tried were very strong, and interesting. I love the Vetyver, which was uniquely strong, and smelled like a field of wet grass and earth, distinctly vetiver, but which might not be for everyone.

Between the two, I'd try the Salter Almond, but maybe someone who has used both in the Almond scent can help more.

Another fan of Salter's French Vetiver here. Lovely scent. Lovely lather. Lovely shaves. I find the performance of Salters to be just as good or better than the more popular creams that you see used around here.

I haven't used any of the other scents, but had a chance to sniff them all at Colonial Drug. Although the Vetiver was the only scent that clicked with me, I found them all to be nice enough. The almond, if I remember correctly, is sweet and 'foody' smelling and rather strong - not the muted, bitter, soapy almond that I'm used to with Cella. The other stand out for me was the Wild Rose. I'm not a fan of floral shave creams really, but this stuff smells great. Straight ahead fresh roses.

I have tried the Salter French Vetiver, Sublime Citrus, and Fresh Mint. With the exception of the French Vetiver (which to me is the smell of a burning campfire; not horrible but not something I would want to suffer with for some 150 shaves to use up the container), they smelled heavenly, and the performance was top notch!

I would certainly pick the Salter over the TOBS. TOBS is top notch too, but the Salter is just slightly better.

I'm a huge fan of Cyril R Salter creams. They all perform great. I find that the Almond doesn't have enough almond scent. It's nice, it's just a little mild for my liking.

I just received a tub of Salter Almond but have not had a chance to use it yet. The Taylor has a stronger but similar scent to my nose. I prefer Salter to Taylor creams and I have no reason to believe this one won't perform as well as the other ones I have had.

I am a big fan of the TOBS creams. I like the almond cream very much and have it in my regular rotation of creams. It lathers very well and provides a superior shave. When I finish this tub I will replace it with a new one. I have no experience with the Cyril Salter creams so I can not comment on them.

Enjoy your shaves,

Doug
