What's new

Current Progress

Well gents, I had a couple of milestones today. I had my sixth shave this morning and it wasn't bad at all. After the shave I didn't have hardly any razorburn, at least not compared to what I have been having, and the shave was so close that when I leaned my head down and ran my face over my shoulder (this is against the grain) all I felt was silky smooth. I did have a coupld of bleeder spots that don't really seem to seal up. I'll be getting an alum block to see if we can't take care of that. I also figured out how to build my lather up much better. I read in one of the posts to whip like your whipping eggs. At that point little light bulbs went off. This morning I started whipping and when I got finished my brush was so loaded it felt two or three times heavier than normal, and this was with the Burma Boar brush. I also think I understand what is meant by a brush blooming.

I'm still going to be paying a lot of attention to technique and evaluating my blades. I need to find out if the comfort of this shave was due to my technique getting better or the fact that it was the sixth shave on that blade. The blades are Feathers and I'm changing it tonight. In the morning I'll know a bit better. I might have to get in on the sample pack deal.

I do have one question though. Today's shave was one of the better shaves I've ever had. That being said after 6 hours I was allready stubbling up pretty good. Now 11 hours later i would have to shave again if I was going out on a date. Does my beard just grow real fast or is this common?

seems somewhat fast, but as you start getting even closer shaves, the stubble should come on a reduced rate.

and....congrats on the increased success!

First, congrats on the great shave!

I've had a couple of stellar shaves, where I was still smooth 12 hours later, but more often than not I'm in the same boat as you were today.

Usually my face will feel tremendous right after the shave, and the more I feel it as the day moves along, the more I feel the stubble coming in. Sometimes within the hour.

While its depressing when I don't get the *perfect* shave, I console myself by remembering that I get to shave again tomorrow!

Six shaves in one morning! Yikes!

You're not mistaking your Viagra cream for shaving cream, are you? :w00t:

Kidding aside, you will find that your shaves will become progressively better in milestones as you work out your own personal routines. After about a month of DE shaving, I have found that my shaves continue to improve with almost daily BBS results. I thought that my first week was pretty good, but I can attest that my fourth week is even better.

It's all in the technique and each razor, blade and cream combination will affect your success to one degree or another. For this reason, I advise sticky with one razor for at least a month. The blades and cream have a lesser impact and can be varied during this time, but stay with one razor until you really get its specific requirements nailed down.
