curious of soap opinions

hello all, I have gone down a "short" journey of soap discovery as I'm sure many of us have. Throughout my wet shaving career I went from creams to soaps then discovered the difference between glycerin and tallow soaps...here is where I am curious as to others opinions.
I have several tallow based soaps: tabac, williams, MWF, Haslinger...while they all work pretty well, my favorite soap is still col. conk almond, a glycerin soap. After lots of reading it seemed most people preferred tallow and I am wondering if I am alone in preferring glycerin soaps or if perhaps I am doing something wrong

please share any and all opinions on tallow vs. glycerin or favorite soaps...I'm always looking to try more

Nothing wrong with liking non-tallow soaps. Many well respected soaps are tallow free, such as La Toja, Klar, Van Der Hagen, Gold Dachs, Mama Bear, etc. Use what works for you, regardless of the ingredients list.

My favourite soaps are : D R Harris (choose a scent), Czech & Speake, MWF, Tabac, Sir Irisch Moos, Palmolive, Haslinger, Valobra stick....

They all provide me with dense, slick lather and make for great shaving.

Hmmm...my favorite non-tallow soap?

Thanks all for sharing, I was curious to find more glycerin based soaps to try..I think I've added a few more to the list.

I love my tallow soaps, including 5 Harris, but my #1 soap is Ogallala Bay Rum. If it works, I don't care what it's made from.

A good soap is a good soap, and a sub-standard soap is a sub-standard soap irrespective of ingredients.

mtho68 I hope you've taken pains to disguise your true indentity. If the Tallow Police can trace your post you could end up in a re-education camp. Conditions there will be inhuman. You'll be forced to shave with carts and canned goo. There'll be no styptic or AS although, if you're lucky, you'll be able to barter some of your ration of rice and fish heads for some on the black market. Some of the more sadistic guards will beat you repeatedly about the head and neck all the while laughing at how their abuse will 'soften' your beard. Good luck! It took a lot of courage to say what you said. I hope you'll continue to elude the authorities.:biggrin1:

hahaha i'll keep my head low oldbluelight. Its true though, if the soap works it doesn't really matter what its made from. Just seems that the "tallow party" is the most outspoken. Glad people have shared their impressions and thoughts on the matter, its always interesting to hear what people like or different brands I may have not heard of before

After lots of reading it seemed most people preferred tallow and I am wondering if I am alone in preferring glycerin soaps or if perhaps I am doing something wrong
Nope. For one thing, preference is preference (on any topic -- not just wetshaving) and there is no right or wrong. Also keep in mind that popular discussion items are just popular discussion items. They do not mean that no one prefers the less popular options. There are some very vocal tallow fans as well as those that don't seem to grasp causal versus coincidental and assume that tallow defines what is or isn't a good soap (it doesn't).

Do what works for you. Always keep in mind: YMMV.

I've used good tallow soaps and good glycerin soaps with plenty of luck.... I've also had bad luck lathering both. Glycerin soaps can be good and tallow soaps can be bad. The trick is to find the good ones of each type.
