Cup of Europe-Oslo blend

?I bought a bag of this product to give it a try.It is a labeled a medium roastalthough I would place it as a medium -dark.I opened the bag and gave it a sniff...green peanuts. Not good.

I loaded up the percolator in my usual fashion 7 spoons in a 9 cup pot and fired it up.Smelled pretty good.But...a definite green peanut flavor. Not good.

What is the cause of this? Were unripened beans used?I had heard of this taste in the past but never ran across it myself.Any help for it?I did a pot in a drip pot and the green flavor was not as pronounced.

Might you also describe the flavor as grassy? That typically means the beans were not roasted long enough. Or possibly due to other roasting process defect where the temperature curve was way off.

I could not say "grassy".Have you ever eaten a bag of salted peanuts? While eating them you got one that was unripe,a little tough, chewy with a green and slightly bitter taste. That green taste with a slight bit of "twang" is what this tastes like, under the regular coffee flavor.

Another description would be if you have ever been in a supermarket or farmers market and they were selling fresh raw peanuts. That aroma/taste is what is present in this product.

Definitely not what you look for in a cup of coffee.A damn shame as I like medium roast products and had bought this as a treat to myself. No treat as it turns out.

Do you know the origin of the coffee? I once got some green unroasted coffee beans from Bali through a coffee buying club. Members raved about the fruity flavors found in the previous year's harvest, but this crop from the same farm was undrinkable. It was dry processed, but something went wrong along the way and the beans picked up some very undesirable favors that could not be masked by the roast level. Hard to remember and describe the flavors but there was a strong twang and muskiness that overpowered everything else.

Sounds like you got some similarly badly processed coffee. I would talk to the roaster if possible to try and resolve. It is something they should have been aware of before and after roasting. Maybe they were trying to make a snazzy blend but failed.
