Does anyone wear these anymore my grand father is 100 and he gave me a few sets some with diamonds 18k gold and some with hand carved cameo whatever that is I guess my question is can I get shirts that don't have buttons on the sleeves
Actually, you'll find a number of cukk link fanatics around the Haberdashary. While they are not as common as buttin cuffed shirts, there are not difficult to find. You can find them anywhere ranging from Marshalls to Macy's to Brooks Brothers
Look for the words "French cuff" on the shirt packaging at stores. These will have the cuffs that are appropriate for cuff links. I have one or two shirts that use them, and one pair of links. That is besides a couple of tuxedo shirts (dinner jacket shirts for the English) that also have French cuffs.
Cuff links can be used with both French Cuffed or English Cuffed (non-folded cuff, but "button-less) shirts. Both are considered "formal" and are traditional worn with suits. The English Cuff is considered the most "formal" of the two. When wearing a suit, I prefer French or English Cuffs. IMHO, it adds a bit of "traditional sophistication" which can be lacking in today's world. Plus, your family members will always have something they can get you for Christmas, Birthdays, etc. YMMV
I wear french cuffs quite often, not just with a suit but always with a tie.
They are definitely more in fashon and readily available than a few years ago.
I think cufflinks are great and use them every chance I get which is about twice a week. I think they look great with a suit, but can be a nice improvement even without a suit. It depends on what look you're going for.
If you don't like the look and don't see yourself wearing them, or anyone in your family, you can sell them on the Bay
One each of my two pairs of cufflinks. I like to wear them randomly, if i save them for special occasions, they never get worn.
The fish are an anniversary gift from my fiancee, 18K gold with pearl accents from Etsy and the others are an antique store find from my mother as a gift many birthdays ago
I love cufflinks, and I'm only 23. None of mine are as nice as yours sound, but someday I hope to work my way up to that level. As many members have pointed out you're looking for dress shirts with french cuffs. Many stores that sell suits will sell french cuff shirts with their regular dress shirts, you'll just have to look at the shirt/label or ask a clerk for help.
I have several pairs. From one Grandfather, my father, and ones I've purchased. I recently wanted a semi-formal french cuff shirt for an occasion and had a difficult time finding one in the local retailers, but did finally find a white stripe on white that fit the bill.
Who knows? The way fashion changes they may become mainstream again someday.
I wear cuff Links and love them. The best shirts for cuffs I have found are Jos Banks Travelers. They really feel nice and no ironing is required. You can also order them for exact sleeve length. Try to catch them on sale, which isn't difficult. Also, you can find some really nice vintage cuff links on Ebay.
I wear French cuff shirts with my suits. It's elegant and sophisticated in appearance IMO. My wife comes from a European family and has bought me cuff links over the years. I get a lot of compliments about them and I think it is nice to sustain gentleman's traditions. I wish I had been lucky enough to inherit vintage sets.
Check out Charles Tyrwhitt online. Non-iron (therefore low maintenance) dress shirts with cuff links for everyday suit attire. It's a nice and basic selection with matching ties and cuff links.
I wear them all the time. Since I work out of my house now, I don't have the opportunity to don the links as often as I would like. But when I used to into the office, I would wear them every day. I don't own a dress shirt without French cuffs.
When you dress up for any occasion requiring a suit or formal wear, I suggest wearing your grandfathers cuff links for several reasons. Firstly, in my opinion, you should honour your grandfather by wearing such a precious gift. Secondly, the cuff links will take you up a notch (style wise) and will almost certainly become a conversation topic. Lastly...it will impress the ladies
When I wore suits to the office, I would wear cufflinks probably 19 days out of 20. Now it is much less often. Here is a quick snap of some of my pairs:
