Crunch

Was finishing up a blade - mid-way through Tomo.

Then it happened.
There was that dreadful feeling under the blade - like a very rough pebble got into the slurry.

I rinsed the stone, cleaned and wiped off the blade and walked away.
Came back a while later, did some stuff online, sanded my FrankenFeather a bit more, and then I pulled out the Proscope.
After a quick scan along the bevel - there it was - a chip at the midpoint in the blade.

So - back to the bench. 15-20 minutes later - after a rather intense session on a Botan Toishi - the edge was, once again, ready to be finished.

Done now - shave later.

A horrible feeling-like fingernails on the chalkboard.

As a film user I never get pebbles. But sometimes something will get under the film, causing a bump that is immediately noticeable. It doesn't feel good.

I applaud your response to the situation. I usually opt for cursing like a sailor.

A very mature way of handling the situation I must say.
It happens once in a blue moon & it sure is painful. Though I never handle it as good as you dear Sir

Thanks guys. I'm not normally that composed.

What I think is that the bumple was actually the steel that chipped off, and not a stone bit.
Kinda like when a wire edge strips off.
Anything is possible, but I had been working that slurry for a good bit and I'm fairly certain that I would have hit a pebble earlier on if that were the case.
I'm going to smooth, round and lacquer the sides of that Tomo as a precaution though.
