Crabtree and Evelyn in bowl, or Harris in a refill puck? Advice?

Hey people, I'm about to run out of Cella and I want to spend $20. I could get a refill puck of DR Harris Arlington today, or I could get a wooden bowl of the discontinued Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad on the internet for the same price. Additional info: I don't yet have a wooden bowl. I just smash stuff into a Tabac container. And I can't bring myself to get a bowl/soap package at $30.

What do you think? Will the Nomad be a funky adventure, or a huge bummer like the Trumper's rose refill puck I now keep in my sock drawer?

I didn't like the lather I got from Nomad soap. I would go with Arlington. It has better lather, and it smells much nicer too.

Nice, thanks. I think I was kind of drawn in by the Nomad's prog-rock aesthetic, but if the lather's weak, you can't have that.

I have both and I find that either one performs fine for me.

I like the scent of Nomad better than Arlington but scent is a personal thing.

Thanks! I guess opinions diverge. You think it's a good deal for $20, bowl included?

My local shave shop has it on sale for $15 this week (had it in my hand yesterday but I already have 2 pucks at home).

List is $22 so $20 is reasonable (depending on what you have to pay for shipping).

I find that I enjoy face lathering with both Nomad or Arlington as I get a better lather out of both of them that way.

As far as the bowl. I keep my Nomad in a Conk onyx bowl

Any soap you haven't used is worth trying. You can poll but what others prefer and experience may have no relevance to your own preferences and experience. You already have posts in this thread that state opposite opinions about Nomad's lather. DRH is fairly popular but you'll certainly find those that don't care for it and/or have problems lathering it. On top of all that, scent's also highly subjective even for those that like similar scents.

I don't think I'd bother with a soap that I knew I wouldn't be able to buy in the future but this is all YMMV and you have to buy based on your preferences and needs.

Well, having heard strong arguments from all sides, I'm going to do both! I'll just consider the Nomad a sub for the next Tabac refill puck, only with a wooden bowl included.

From my experience, i prefer the Harris over the c&e for both scent and lather.

I know its a touch over your price point, but Bull Goose has the Windsor in mahogany bowls for $25.

I have to agree with most there that the C&E soap doesn't lather very well for me and would go with the Harris. The West Indian Limes soap i got from C&E is very thin but if you mix it with a cream all of a sudden explodes and lathers well. So it's reserved for uberlather only AFAIC.

My one and only puck of C&E soap (Sienna) ended up in the trash. The performance was just too lame to waste my time with it.

This is getting suspenseful. So it was basically a trumper situation? That stuff was completely unworkable.

For any "sub par" performing product, you might consider this option that will make more lather than you can handle.

In that thread, you can read what others have experienced using this same method with any number of product combinations

Also if you want some wooden bowls but don't what to pay the premium price charged by the soap manufactures, google for "Kingsley shave bowl" (no quotes) https://www.google.com/search?q=kingsley+shave+bowl

+1.

Both perform fine for me.

I'd probably give a slight edge to Harris in performance, but for me the scent of C&E Nomad is fantastic. Has it really been discontinued?

Someone said it was still going to be available in Europe.

I was in my local shave shop yesterday (where they are having a 30% off sale) and they have lots of Nomad (soap in bowl, refill puck, and all of the other products in that scent).

It's still available on the UK website. They had a sale at one point last year and I stocked up on a few pucks of Nomad and Sienna - I think these are two of my favourite scents in shaving soaps. I find the C&E aftershave balms to be very good too.

Interesting. I've never gotten the shave stick thing to work all that well, but in conjunction with something else, I bet it will be great.

It is incredible..... Just finished my shave with LaToja stick and Arlington....

I just had so much lather falling off my face I had to change the sink water before the first pass
