couple of newbe questions

Being new to the world or DE...I have purchesed a Tech, A Tech travel, and a FatBoy...so I am set to experament with blades (Thanks again h2oman)...but I find myself wanting a Razor from my birth year...1963...how do I find out what Date code this would be?

Also I looked at a STAR razor today...it looked like a Tech...price with $3 but it had some tarnish on it...I passed...never heard of Star...should I go back and get it?

Date codes here. 1963 would have the letter I on the left side of the back of the head. On the right side will be a numeral 1 through 4 for the quarter of the year in which it was made.

Have read some good things about Star DE razors here, along the lines of "good but underappreciated". They also made SE razors. No hands on experience, so you'll want another opinion there.

Yes, you might as well go back and get the star DE.
You might never use it, but if you don't get it you'll always look back on the missed opportunity with regret. That's a pretty nice insurance policy for $3.

Snatch up both.

A Star Single Edge for a mere $3 is a steal!! It could be of the 1912 variety (a little less rare), or of the Lather Catcher variety, which are very old, and very prized.

The Gem/Star/EverReady SE razors are wonderful razors, that I think give a closer shave than DE razors, and are vastly under-rated.
