Counterfeit Feather Blades?

I recently came across a post in which someone expressed a fear that Feathers in 5 packs might be counterfeit. If I'm not mistaken the reason given was tugging, etc.

I recently received some new Feathers in 5 packs and I find them to be identical to my old ones in 10 packs.

Has anyone else wondered about Feathers being counterfeit, and if so, why?

Hi Timothy: Can you share some pics of the blades? I have been lucky that I haven't encountered any "fake" blades. I always buy my blades from a reputable vendor. If you are going to buy Feather blades, I would go with Bull Goose Shaving.

I have had both the yellow and black packs and they seem to be the same to me, same wrapper, same dispenser style, same markings on the blade, the only difference is 5 in the black and 10 in the yellow pack:shaving:

The old 10 pack is on the left. The new 5 pack is on the right.

I have never seen a sealed yellow pack with only five blades inside. I know that black packs have five blades but yellow pack always have ten blades. That is if they are sealed.

I have had the 5-pack (black and silver package) and the 10-pack (yellow package); blades from either pack felt identical to me.

No-one is counterfeiting blades, they cost 15 cents each! At worst you've got different blades in similar packaging aimed at different markets that get people here confused.

There were Iridium fake blades IIRC.
I read somewhere that most Gillette cartridges sold on eBay are fake. It could be false but I have seen pictures of fake Gillette cartridges.

I could see where this would be a viable source of counterfitting, because they only cost about 5cents to make and they charge up to $5 per cartridge...... thats an immense markup

I have seen pictures of yellow sleeves with yellow tucks inside and number 5 was printed at the bottom portion of the sleeve. I think you are right, there are some yellow tucks with five blades but this would be identifiable only if purchased by the sleeve (20 tucks of 5 blades). I have never held such packaging in my hands so I was a bit puzzled.
Tonsor, I do not need any pictures and I think I answered my own question. Thanks.

Over here in the UAE we have the one on the left:

Apparently the one on the left has been discontinued since 1988 according to this very informative thread. Are the blades im using 24 years old?

Yes, they most probably are (although the retro-package may have been used for some runs after that, too). Razor blades have been made in huge quantities and old stocks last a long time. The amounts of purchase are huge (minimum of 10 000 is common, and I wouldn't be surprised if an order of one million is normal) - and prices low, so many shops definitely have large stocks.

Once, I purchased a pack of Fusion cartridges on Dealxtream, the worst piece of junk I ever shaved with (They couldnt even pass throu 1 shave :/ )

FWIW I just checked my black and grey feather(5) tuck against my yellow(10) tuck and on the back of the plastic dispenser on one of the corner the 10 pack had a J9, and the 5 pack had a J7

Im not sure if thats just MY packs of if that pertains to all 10 and 5 packs
