Coticule love... show off your rock

Picked this up and had to do quite a bit of lapping to get it flat. I've been wanting to get into more coticules while honing. Had a very oxidized/dirt type of coloring to it before I lapped it an it turned into this very yellow color with tiny sparkling specs in it.

I'll admit, I'm not much of a coticule guy. What are those specs? Any guesses of what vein? The two coti's I have, do not have anything like that.

Thanks

Not sure of the vein but it's a nice stone. Glad someone here got it, I was bidding on it too. Looks a lot like an old 2x4 one I have.

Yeah I definitely wish they was still mining Coticule’s like the one I just posted. To be honest it seems like these old vintage ones are getting harder and harder to find. I honed my Henckels razor on it, with the Dr. Matt’s technique buy killing the edge and bringing back on the 5K the finished under running water on the Coticule edge came out very nice, I’ll do my shave off it tomorrow, but I must say being away from honing for a few years was a real enjoyment today.

That speckly coticule is defective. Send it over to me and I'll cover the disposal costs. 😁😁

No, it's just very rustically extracted. I need to strap the fossilized muck from the edges to see if there is any visible transition zone.

I just scored a small coticule. Could you please make suggestions which vein is it from?

This was awful... Hours.... There was a lot of turbulent junk on the back but once I got through that it's like black clouds in the rock on one side.

I will be very interested to learn your regard for that stone. I am surprised that it is partially unfinished on the two sides.

All four sides are the same. it's actually a parallelogram when looked at from the ends. It's just strange that a "normal" sort of coticule was so brutal it needed sic on top of 7 different sheets of 120 grit wet dry for meaningful movement as it was murdering plain wet dry almost instantly... The dmt was doing nothing. I just used that dmt to lap a washita that was well out front and back in under an hour...
