Confused about terminology

Hey guys, I've been trying to find local shops around me that sell razors and I found a place that sells both the Merkur 22C and the 33C. Upon searching online I noticed that that only difference between the two was hand length and weight. But on the store's website it doesn't mention that. However one is being described as a Double Edge Razor and the other is a Double Edged Safety Razor. Correct me if I'm wrong but are they not the same thing? Also, between the Edwin Jagger DE 89 or either the Merkur 22C/33C, which would you guys get? They're rougly the same price give or take $5 so that's not an issue.

Hi there HeyYoWL:

DE
Double Edge Razor
Double Edge Safety Razor
Safety Razor (most of the time)

are all referring to the same thing.

Welcome to B&B! :biggrin1:

Yip. And they all take the same blades too, so don't worry about trying to match up brands (unless the blades are clearly labeled as single edge).

Welcome aboard!
In the spirit of this forum, buy one of each, and see which one you like more. Beside the difference in their looks and handle sizes, the difference in their performance is small but exists. You'll never know which one is better for you intil you try them. Both Merkur and EJ razors are well regarded as good starter razors.

+1 here. As for me I'd choose the Merkur, but that's been my experience after trying both.
