Completing the series

This topic won't mean anything to those who are happy with one good razor, with maybe a second as a backup or travel razor. It won't mean anything to those who have accumulated five or six in their search for the best shaver. I was in that position, once.:001_huh:

As my collection has grown, I found that I was trying to complete a couple of "series" of razors. I think I've done that now with my Gems. I have one of each major type from the Gem 1912 to the Contour II. I don't have every variation within those types, but that's okay with me.

I'm trying to complete my injector collection with at least one of each letter type. I don't have to have every variation of a given letter; I've got an I2, so I can pass on an I1. As in my current signature, I'm still looking for types A, D, and O, all of which are fairly elusive. I missed one good chance for an A, Ds are rare, and although one member pointed out a Dutch seller who had some Os, they were very expensive.

What series are other people trying to complete? All the Techs, all the Superspeeds? All the all-plastic WWII era razors?

Where is this Dutch seller with the Os? Been trying to get one of those myself to actually shave with, not collect.

I've got a cased B1 I've been thinking about putting on the B/S/T as I've decided to collect only Gillette and a few domestic and foreign "interest" pieces such as the Eclipse Red Ring, Apollo, Gibbs, Barbasol, DeHaven, the 4 vintage slants made by Merkur (Coles, Hoffritz, Pomco), etc. I've unloaded all of my GEMs and Schicks except for this B1.

I've recently completed the Lady Gillette collection now having all 4 colors. I'm currently working on the Aristocrat line since obtaining a minty 1934.

I'm in the "can count my razors on one hand" camp so I can't help....sounds like you've got a pretty advanced case of RAD! :scared:

When I saw the thread title, I seriously thought you were talking about date codes.

After my third Superspeed I toyed with the idea of collecting EVERY date code of a particular type of SS, including quarters, starting with flare tips (my favorite!). Unfortunately, this does not in any way add to my shaving pleasure, so this sort of thing will have to wait until 1) I have all the soaps, aftershaves, and different kinds of razors I want to try, and 2) I make more money.

I had this problem with coins when I was younger. Buying every year of a coin series was a big deal for me. Again, I couldn't afford to actually complete anything, although my collection of American Silver Eagles (uncirculated AND proof) was pretty close!

Sounds like some obsessive/compulsive tendencies. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I like the '30s-'40s phenolic razors, myself. Not sure why.
Not that I dislike any good old (or new) razor. I like them all. But, something about the old phenolic ones just seems to turn my crank.
I tend to be obsessive about wanting 2 of each razor. Dunno why. Guess I have some kind of AD

I'm resurrecting my own old thread to say that I have now completed the series, according to my own notions.

About a month ago, another member sold me his type D injector. A week later, I got a type A on eBay, bidding on my phone while on vacation. I also unexpectedly picked up one of the International Silver "Revereware" injectors for much less than the usual price.

Now another B&B member has sold me his NOS Schick type O; it just arrived today.

Interesting feeling. It's not like I've sworn off ever buying another razor, but I'm no longer looking for anything in particular. Time for a period of enjoying what I've got.:001_smile
