College Football

Read Bill O'Reilly's latest book. Natives were geniuses, and obviously not in just warfare. Their huge cities and their culture. Many of us have their blood running (in my case a drop or two) in our veins and are very proud of our heritage, however remote.
I have absolutely zero Native American in my blood but my grandkids are card carrying Cherokee Tribe members. They get free medical care and help with their schooling if they need it. In Eastern Oklahoma if you are Native American and commit a crime, the local authorities can’t investigate or try the case. The Feds have to do it. Eastern Oklahoma is still legally Indian territory. The money from the Indian casinos goes back to the tribe to pay for infrastructure, medical care and education assistance. They are having the last laugh.

If my son was a talented athlete and he was being recruited by any of the schools I mentioned in my last post I would tell him that his options were either to attend ND, Northwestern, Stanford, BC, etc or join the army. Any boy recruited by Stanford or Notre Dame who chooses to go anywhere else is an idiot, as are his parents for allowing him to make such a stupid decision.
What if he says-no I want to play for a winner. What if he says my life is not your, my dream is not the same as yours. What if he says -let me live my own life. So what say you? My son is not capable of making a decision by his self?

I used to tell my son that he could play football for U of M, but I'd go to his games dressed in MSU Green and White, root against him, but not for him to break his leg.

But I'd take their Skolarship money!!!

I love those NoDak Fighting Sioux!

Here’s the rub on the forced name change ... the NCAA is headquartered in Indianapolis which literally means, The City of Indians 😆

As with most all UND athletes, UND administrators & ND politicians, the largest North Dakota Sioux tribe pushed & voted for UND to retain the Fighting Sioux moniker.

UND student groups (aka, self-perceived victims), UND faculty, non Sioux Nation Native Americans & the NCAA pushed for the name change.

UND ultimately relented & sans a ‘nickname/mascot’ settled on plain ol’ North Dakota. This also pissed off the NCAA, who (again) threatened to sanction UND ... and to make a long story short, this is how we ended up with the UND Fight Hawks 🤮.

For my money, the Fighting Sioux hockey uniform & especially their sweaters were in a league all their own ... college, professional, whatever sport or league, the Fighting Sioux sweater stood alone, with the Chicago Blackhawks (red) sweaters a close second.

That is beautiful.

B&B membership has its percs
Grew up in Cleveland, so we had the Tribe & the Browns. Back then nobody realized, but hindsight is 20-20. So once we realize t he implications might be the adult thing to change a name? Just wondering

You know, I love to bust on Ohio State and the Big 10 as much as anybody, but those guys have got a good football team. Clemson is going to have to mount a serious good second half to make this a game.

I didn't see Ohio State manhandling Clemson. Fields is a gamer. I think it will be a good, competitive, close game with Alabama.
Ohio State has shown that they get up and down. I have two doubts about them against Alabama. First will they be up? Second, will Fields be able to play. I bet he has cracked ribs and they are going to hurt a lot tomorrow.

Should Ohio St have the same mojo against Bama they have tonight could be a game for the ages. Maybe after this beatdown Dabo will stop running that blower. Clemson getting beat by the number 11 team, hahhaaa

I'm guessing he regrets ranking them that low, what do you think ;)

The OSU offensive and defensive line killed the Tigers. Lawrence had no protection.

I was going to say the same thing. Buckeyes absolutely dominated them in the trenches tonight...owned the line of scrimmage on both Offense & Defense.

If Ohio State plays this good and Alabama plays as well as they can....we are in for a heck of a good game on Jan 11th.

Football is huge in Ohio and Ohio State is one of the largest programs in the country. Outside of Ohio, Ohio State travels extremely well. Bowl games are always sold out and Ohio State fans are everywhere. I live 2000 miles away in Arizona and if I wear an Ohio State tee shirt out I'll randomly bump into other fans. I'll be pumping gas and hear someone yell out "O H". My neighbor is an Alabama fan. If you Google most valuable college football programs 2020 and you'll find OSU in second place with a value of 1.05B. Texas is first, Alabama is third. This value isn't derived from only in state fans. It's a national brand, just like Alabama, Notre Dame, etc. As people relocate around the country they are still passionate about their home teams. With a larger program like Ohio State there would certainly be more fans scattered around the country than with smaller programs like UVA.

Also not sure how you can say the SEC is downplayed by the media. The college Football Playoff Committee absolutely loves the SEC. You can look at the Florida LSU game to see Florida drop only one spot after losing to a terrible 3-5 LSU team. Not sure how that happens otherwise. The SEC Network is owned by a joint venture between Disney and ESPN. ESPN is all about college football and if anything there is an SEC bias. They are constantly pumping up the SEC and televising SEC games. I would argue that the SEC is likely the most popular conference at the moment. Certainly the one the CFP committee favors.

If you do a quick search you'll see the SEC and BIG10 are about even when it comes to number of televised games. The other conferences aren't quite as popular. Think about it, when was the last time you were unable to watch an Alabama game you wanted to watch.

The reason for less Ohio State games this season is this inconvenience that we've had to deal with this past year called COVID. Had it been a normal year things would certainly be different. The BIG10 shut it down at the beginning of the year, not Ohio State. Ohio State wanted to play. So when it comes time to enforce a minimum game rule that the BIG10 had in place of course they're going to change it. Why would they penalize Ohio State because they (the BIG10) shut the season down. Because they didn't allow any time for make up games, they wouldn't allow any out of conference games, and they royally screwed the whole thing up. Are they supposed to say, "Yep, you won all of your games and you deserve to get to play for a championship but we're going to send the team you already beat instead because we made a mistake and it's a rule now"? I don't understand the 6 game hang up as the College Playoff Selection Committee doesn't have that rule. Their job is to choose the very best four teams. Sure, playing in a conference championship helps your chances of getting selected but they could have included Ohio State with just 5 games played if they thought they were one of the four top teams. They could have included them with two games played if they wanted to. They haven't limited themselves to just conference champions. They might have put them in anyway had it come to this. They've been top four for almost the entire season in the coaches polls as well as all other rankings.

In the 2020 NFL draft Ohio State put 10 players into the NFL including 3 in the first round.
In 2019 they put 10 players into the NFL including 3 in the first round.
In 2018 it was 7 including 2 first round players.
In 2017 it was 7 including 3 first round players.
In 2016 it was 12 players including 5 first round selections.

Many of these are players are standouts in the NFL.

There is a pattern here that the CFP selection committee sees. It's about recruiting the top athletes, having the coaching staff to develop these recruits into NFL talent, winning your games and developing productive NFL players. The multitude or 4 and 5 start recruits and the skilled coaches bringing out the very best from this talent is what gives them the ability to win against the Alabama or Clemson's of the world and potentially take home a championship. This is what the committee looks for, not just the number of games played. I'm not saying that Ohio State is going to beat Alabama, or Clemson for that matter, but they do have the talent to potentially pull of off. I can't say that for very many other teams. This is why they are in it.

To be the best you've got to beat the best. I wouldn't want to win a championship where Alabama or Clemson weren't represented if they were in the top four teams, as what would that mean? I hope all players are COVID free and ready to play so that a championship is a true championship.

When your conference (B1G) is made of 13 fluff teams, it's easy to 'stand out'. But it's funny that the SEC and the ACC were able to play 10 regular season games, and Indiana was able to play 7, but ohio couldn't muster 6 regular season games, and by the B1G's own rules set up this season, they didn't even qualify to play in their fluff championship game. Heck, they didn't even win their division!
You think Clemson, ND, Bama, Georgia, Fl, Tx A&M, and others would have played a full 10 game season if they knew they could have played 5 and still gotten into playoff contention?
ohio gets coddled.
As for the rest of the of what you said, when you only play 5 fluff teams in the regular season, you are not getting the wear and tear on your players. Bama lost Waddle in the A&M game, and their center in the SEC Championship game. Fl tried to take Smith out with an ankle twist. Just think of how the Bama numbers would look if Waddle didn't break his ankle in a game Bama didn't need to play if they got the kid glove treatment like ohio.

never will happen. college football has alabama fatigue. overall just tired of saban and the process. just remember " to be the man, you got to beat the man"
