cold water shave

Well it had to happen and i decided today to give the cold shaving method a try and that included shaving before i took my shower, just rinsed my face off quickly,a quick soak for brush in cold water and hit the tabac and face lathered.
I have to admit it was a little shocking at first without all the warm lather and water to accompany it but once i adjusted it was not at all bad. as far as the shave, while this was only the first time i feel the shave was as close and probably closer and near zero on the irritation. One thing is that it was definitely the quickest ever, no scuttle to clean, quick rinse of brush and wipe off straight and done. maybe less than 15 min. start to finish. that i like. I won't be selling off my scuttle until the winter verdict is in but this looks very promising.

cold water shaving is effective, but I prefer effectiveness and comfort:001_smile

I'd reckon it would be a bit harsher on the blade, the time you saved with your shave you may have to spend on maintenance.

Of course, I could well be wrong there.

Face lathering can also be accomplished with hot water......

I tried a cold water shave one time to try and tighten up teh skin for use with a Feather SUperpro. Seemed to work out well, but a bit dissatisfying....

I've shaved with cold water before, and the shave was not bad. But the comfort just wasn't there, and if I'm going to enjoy the shave, I've gotta have the comfort. :001_rolle :w00t: :bored:

I have tried both warm and cold shaves. I felt the cold water actually gave me a closer shave, I think this is because the warm water opens up the pores making your face a little puffy and the cold water closes the pores making your face well not-puffy. The only other difference I felt was the water temp.

+1

Every time someone brings up cold water shaving, I wince. Wetshaving is supposed to be enjoyable! Unless I was in the middle of a desert with no A/C, it's warm water every time. Just feels nicer.

I am a cold water shaver....Although, I do add just a little hot water so that the cold water is not shocking. I also think that my lather does not dry out as fast...ymmv

I thought warm water forced the hairs out a little more because the skin would expand and that when it was cold it would contract and pull the hairs in with it?

Try shaving cold then hit your face with hot water. Compare the stubble before the hot water hits it and after. If it feels more rough with the hot water--i'm right, if not, then hell I may cold water shave for those important days. I'm going to test this.
