What's new

Col Conk!

After reading that Col Conk offered free samples of their short line of aftershaves, I quickly jumped on the FREE SAMPLE WAGON. I wasn't expecting anything incredible. The lime was weak and medicinal, the almond pleasant but weak, but the bay rum was surprisingly good. It downplayed the sweet note of BR, which is why I usually can't stand that scent. The real surprise, though, was the amber.

It's not a strong scent by any means, but it's a wonderful old-fashioned one which manages to not remind me immediately of very old men. My wife calls it "warm and comforting". It's warm without being musky or leathery. If I want something that will linger all day, I will skip this one, but as a daily aftershave this might have just risen to the top of my list!

It also has a substantial burn, and although it doesn't quite soothe like Speick, or moisturize like Musgo Real, my skin does feel great afterward. I wish I had tried this one earlier, but I never hear much about Col Conk's aftershaves. That should change!

I really enjoyed the CC samples that they sent me, and I thought their bay rum was one of the better versions I've smelled, but I just couldn't get past the pricetag. I think it's weird that a company selling such inexpensive soaps wants so much for their AS.

Just write to info {at} colconkproducts {dot} com. They send you a sample of their four aftershaves, four soaps, and a nice catalog that contains mostly Dovo and Merkur stuff.

I'm with you on the Amber splash. I love it. I don't like the scent of fancy high-end Amber EdT's but this one I really like, probably because it's a cheap imitation, though expensive at around $20 a bottle. I don't understand the pricing either, there's nothing magic on the ingredients list, just cheap chemicals.

I discovered it by requesting the sampler pack, of course. Due to my sensitive skin I thought alcohol splashes were not for me, but I gave this one a try anyway, prepared for the worst. I was surprised how well it worked on my face and how it left my skin feeling once I got past the initial mild burn. I still have to use an ASB or moisturizer after but my skin feels much nicer. I think it just has the right alcohol % for my skin, to me it's low in alcohol, I tried others that really burnt. I would not mind if the scent lasted a little longer.

As a side note, I really like their Almond soap and I'm not an almond scent fan, but it performs really well for a $4 soap (only the almond though, I can't say the same about the other soap scents).

Ingredients: SD Alcohol 40-A, Proplene Glycol, Fragrance, Methyl Gluceth-20, FD&C Blue No 1, FD&C Yellow No 5, FD&C Red No 40.

Proplene Glycol - that's how it's really misspelled on the box!

I may have to get some samples. Ive always wondered how close the smell of bay rum after shave was to the bay rum soap. I really like the conk bay rum smell. I haven't smelled the almond but would probably like it too.

Really? I quite like the bay rum soap, and I don't really see why they'd be much different.

I'm going to email them now about free samples. I've been wanting to try Col Conk's products. Hopefully they'll hook me up with some soap or aftershaves or something. It'll be interesting to see if their soap is better than the Williams or Van Der Hagen I've used up till now. :thumbup1:

The bay rum was pleasant all though not a true bay rum. For bay rum comparison DR Harris is my benchmark and Conk falls far short. I haven't tried the others but I have been intrigued by the almond because nobody else makes an almond splash that I'm aware.

Conk doesn't make an almond splash either, it's a balm. I think I like the Conk scents probably because they are cheap imitations of the real scents :001_smile

Well, today I got my samples from Col. Conk. The only problem was that they shipped them in a standard envelope without any padding. The Lime and the Almond were completely destroyed in the envelope. However, the Amber and the Bay Rum were still intact and do smell delightful. I do appreciate the freebies, but I wish that I could have sampled the Lime and Almond. Cudos to them for trying :cryin:

I'm not sure why they do this. That's what happened to me the first time I tried, there was broken glass all over the envelope. I emailed them back and then they padded them well. They should know by now that their shipping method is not reliable. But I do appreciate they give out free samples.

I found their soap samples almost unusable as well. They wee too small to really do anything with, but I will echo the recognition of their service. It's part of the reason I even use their soap.

I would have to agree, I've been using the Col Conk Amber aftershave splash since the beginning of my wet shaving journey.

The scent is fantastic! A real gem in the rough.
