What's new

Cobra Classic

Could someone who owns one of these bad boys post a picture of the razor head showing the blade sitting in the holder. After all the talk of bad batches from there, I'm staring to wonder if my blade sits in there correctly. Thanks in advance.

I have never used one, so I do not know what they are supposed to look like, but here is a picture from Classic Shaving

As the photo Mike uploaded reflects, near the safety bar the front, corner edges of the blade should be under the "stops" so that the blade is properly seated. (This is similar to a traditional injector or SE.) If the blade is not under those tabs the blade will have a significant blade gap.

I can try to snap a photo tonight if you need more detail.

EDIT: It looks like Classic may not have properly seated the blade in their photo. ; )

Poonjaji, you are correct! I too looked at that photo when the passaround came to me and it sook me 3 shaves before I figured out the blade stops. The stops are very small and it takes some doing to seat the blade properly, but once seated correctly, the CC is one fine shaving tool.

Thanks for the photo. After looking it Classic's photo it looks as if there blade is not sitting under the gaps. On another note I abotu had a heart attack after I walked into the bathroom tonight and notice my significant other dropping my Cobra into the garbage. Good thing it hit only a soft bag and not the floor. Thanks for the feedback.

On another note, is there any place that has a Cobra that has play in the razor as the other mention has been or is the blade gap the only issue that comes about on these razors?

Are you referring to the larger holes maybe? Both mine have larger holes which I understand is so it can take certain larger blades. I don't recall which blades though. I have never had any problem with either of my Cobras. And I get such good service from the Feather Pros there is just no reason to try other blades.

I bought the 2nd one just to make sure I had one in case they quit producing as I understood that was a real possibility.

I am actually wanting a second one as well in case that ever happens. However, I would like to get an older model and one that I know is good instead of the newer one with the new lettering on the bottom. Seems like I will have to place a WTB ad here very soon:)

My 2nd one is a newer one. The handle felt a little rougher to me than my first but didn't bother me and I don't really notice it now. Shaves the same for me. I have had excellent service from Class Shaving though so I wasn't concerned about them failing to stand behind the product.

Not the best pictures, but you should get the idea. I get wonderful shaves with this set-up. My Cobra was a Christmas present in Dec 2012-last year. It is of the previous version-before the mold change. FYI, Classic's photo is not properly seated.
I think people tend to get overly concerned about the different versions (old mold vs new mold). If it's ok, it's ok. If it's not Classic Shaving will make it good. They have stated that. So, stop worrying guys. It's all good. By-the-way, the larger holes are for occomodating the thicker blades like the super pro.

I also have a second waiting in the wings. Very interested in the HuntLee Katana as well. Would like a stainless steel Cobra but I am willing to explore other awesome shaving opportunities.

I will certainly consider the HuntLee Katana. It isn't exactly clear to me yet if I will buy one or not.

It is hard for me to believe it will perform significantly better for me than the Cobra although it undoubtedly will be different even though it uses the same blade. If I did buy one I would expect it to take some time for me to develop skill with it and I just now feel like I am in that range with the Cobra. So better expected performance isn't really a reason for me to purchase.

I am not really a collector although I do own a few razors that mean something to me personally. I don't have that connection with the HuntLee.

But I do support the idea of the razor and especially a stainless one and I admire someone taking the risk and effort to introduce a product like this to the market so I might buy it just to support them for doing it.

TerryF, I feel exactly the same. Stainless steel is attractive to me. Of course there is supposed to be a new version of the Cobra available as well.

Here's to hoping I can locate a second one as well:001_rolle
