Cobra Classic Users New Users Comments

I received my Cobra Classic on the 21st of April and have been using it everyday. I decided to go to Kai blades and for me it provides the best shaves of any razor/ blade combination that I have ever tried. I was wondering what the new users like me are experiencing. I have decided to go for a month and not use any other razor just to see how much I really do like this razor. I might have just found my holy grail of razors.

Yeah it's a pretty great razor. I've been using the Feather pros that came with it and am also getting excellent shaves.

I received mine on April 24, 2013 and have been using it almost daily. My setup is Proraso green and a badger brush face lathering after shower at night. I use 3 passes - WTG, ATG, XTG and a little extra on the neck and around my mouth - sometimes with an injector because it is a little narrower. However, I am gaining a lot of proficiency with the Cobra and pretty much using it for everything.

The Feather Pro blades are magnificent for me. I am still using my first blade and completed shave 7. I've had to miss a couple of days shaving.

Pretty pleased with it so far.

I have to keep mine locked up otherwise I won't use any other razors. I hate it

Got mine yesterday. First shave was acceptable, todays was a bit rough. Quite a bit of irritation. Just out of curiosity there seems to be quite a bit of play between the base plate and top plate. It doesn't seem to affect the blade angle. I was wondering if this was normal.

That was the one thing that kept me from buying one initally. I heard at one time there were quality control isssues and there was play as you described in this post. I don't have any play at all in mine. The only thing I noticed is that you have to make sure that the razor is fully seated in the notch when you load the blade. Maybe some other owners will see this and comment as far as play in their Cobras.

When I first put in the first blade and before I shut I thought it seemed a little loose but that disappeared when I locked it. I do like to remove my blade and wash it off and I have wondered if my repeated openings and closings might loosen the little latch some. But I've had zero trouble with it and I do admire the simplicity of the mechanism.

I find it to be one of more intuitive razors I've used and I enjoy especially the audible feedback when I shave.

Another Cobra thread? Really? More hand-holding to reassure that gents spent $170 for a good reason?

Best razor? So subjective. So anecdotal. So unquantifiable. So biased from the $$$ factor and $$$ blades factor.

A cheaply cast, junk metal modern razor that locks up like a gate latch. The blade insertion and extraction are clumsy and require blade to fingers contact. And all this for $170 plus shipping.

Even the supply line is uneven and unpredictable. Classic Shaving has a golden goose product and can't keep a constant professional flow of products.

R2B- i can see we are gonna butt heads b/c our value and worth just don't line up. I don't see anyone in this thread claiming "BEST" razor, but i did go through it pretty quick.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove. what are you trying to prove? that it's no better than a indian repro of a DE? or a brassy vintage DE? cause you could be wrong. no other non-straight holder utilizes these blades.. they are significantly nicer IMHO than DE blades. people are buying these so why isn't tradere or ATT or someone else jumping into the fray with a lower cost option?

I prefer the form and function of this to any of the Des and SEs. it feels way more solid than any DE i have ever held, including the stainless $200 german DE that i currently forgot the name of.. Blade insertion is easy enough and the contact is no worse than DEs. This isn't gillette production of a tech, nor does it probably mass like EJ, Muhle, or whatever indian factory is pumping out repros. Supply and demand for a pretty good product explains itself.

why is the latch so much inferior to a thread fit? i think many people have provided info that these blades are just as inexpensive per shave as DEs. thank god you are not over in the straights, strops and hones section. your head would explode i think.

my suggestion, even though you didn't ask for it, is to enjoy the variety and experience, even if it comes at a one time $170 plus shipping cost. BTW classic sometimes has free shipping and discount coupons.

have a wonderful day!

Purchased a Cobra Classic about 5 months ago and have been using exclusively, nearly every day for the last several months. I have used Weber, ATT, Fatip, Gillette Slim and others, prior. Now have one DE.
My choice to purchase and use each day. Works well for me; hope everyone finds what works best for them, I have. Most have opinions and all are entitled to have opinions, mine is based on my particular experience.

Funny you Mention this Today, As Today My Cobra Came Back Because of Lots of Play and Uneven Gap. Post is here http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...-Classic-Cobra-Owners-feek-free-to-chime-in-o) So Far it Came Back Really Nice, It blade gap is nice and Even, and it closes really tight with Zero Play, Now that's what I'm Talking about ) This is how it should of been from the Get Go, If you want more info on how it shaves now Follow My Post as i will be posting about its shaves after RMA Fix )

Send it back if it has to Much play, You don't want inconsistencies when shaving with an Expensive SE Razor, That is not what you paid for.

I guess the question I am trying to ask is, is there anyone who owns this razor and has the same kind of issues such as the loose baseplate, what kind of shave do you get? Mine is anything but smooth.

Sometimes I like to see a contrarian view in these type of rah rah (mostly) threads. A little more detail would be nice though.

I started this thread due in large part part because I knew several people purchased Cobra Classics within the last month. I put in the title NEW USER. If someone who has purchased the razor thinks it is a piece of crap then feel free to leave a post that details why. If you haven't purchased the razor and used it, then a comment without first hand experience is an unqualified opinion based on thought not fact.

As for me I came here several years ago looking for the razor that provides the best shave with the least amount of irritation. I started shaving with injectors years ago and the thought of a new injector on the market appealed to me. I do have several Schick injectors and I like them, but they lack the weight that a DE provides and I almost always find myself applying too much pressure. The Cobra solves that issue of weight for me as it has considerable heft. I know it could be a potential drawback to some, but I like the fact you can open the razor and clean it unlike older Schicks. Loading it for me is less dangerous than changing a blade on a Merkur Futur.

With regard to price, the cost of the Cobra is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money I have spent on Vintage Gillettes or one Braun electric razor years ago. I intend on using the Cobra for a month and if I have issues or the razor develops a problem I will post them here and I encourage all other new users to do the same. It will always be a YMMV type of experience with razors, but if we can put revisit this thread in a month or so we can have real world data for a potential new user.

I really like mine. Got it secondhand for £85.

Things I like about it most are:

* The design and the way it looks and feels.
* It's different to all my other DE and SE razors
* I'm now on 15 shaves out of a Feather Professional blade (it actually seems to get better after about 7 shaves!)

So it isn't cheap, and mine isn't 100% perfect (it has a small mark under the chrome on the head) but it pleases me to look at it and use it and it gives excellent shaves.

I realised a long time ago I wasn't in this to save money and I like having the option of the 'Plisskin' in the stable. If it's not for you, that's fine too.
