Cleaning the case

I have a fatboy case that is hazy on the top. I think it must have come from a smokers house old smoke stains. What is best to clean it without damaging the case?

Try polishing with a dry micro-fiber cloth. Its probably just soap scum.

Who smokes while they're shaving? I can't imagine even the heaviest smoker would leave a haze like that on a razor case.

In 1959 when the razor was made probably a lot of people but I figure it was on the counter and somebody was sitting beside it smoking. If you get my meaning.

I tryed a dry cloth didn't do a whole lot.

It was fashionable to smoke and do just about anything back then. I just saw an old Life magazine the other day and on the back cover was a cigarette ad with a couple socialites walking off the tennis court after playing with cigarettes in their hands!

Don't use acetone!! I tried it once and it melted the black plastic part of the case. I have used Dawn dishwashing detergent followed with Maas and had very good luck.

As far as the smoking comment the one very strong childhood memory I have is from my father. He would get up in the morning and smoke in the bathroom first thing as he was getting ready for the day. The smell of old spice and cigarette smoke always reminds me of him. Both my parents smoked and even though they were on the verge of being compulsive about cleaning ,the house always had a cigarette smell and the bathroom without ventilation was probably the strongest odor of all the rooms. It may be that the case has yellowed due to time, but people did and still do smoke in the bathroom. I have found cases that had a coat of sticky residue and it was probably hairspray.

I was in a pizza hut a few years ago before the smoking ban and saw a woman eating and smoking at the same time. She would take a bite then smoke. I can't imagine that the pizza tasted like anything but smoke..

I have a '58 TV case that has what appears to be residue of some sort in one spot on the clear lid (looks like adhesive but is no longer sticky). Should I try toothpaste or PlastX first or something like Goo Gone?

You'd be surprised,we moved into our house in January of 98 and the woman that lived here smoked like a chimney apparently from the burn marks on the bathroom counter and when putting the place up for sale used the old saw of paint everything white (unfortunately with the cheapest flat white around and using the military approach of if it moves salute it if it don't move paint it) and every time we'd shower brown drips of nicotine tar would seep out everywhere.
We scrubbed, repainted and we still have minor tar seepage 15 years later.
