Cleaning old plastic case?

Hi all, been lurking for awhile and thought I'd officially say hi :biggrin1:.

I'll be 40 this year and started shaving when I was in grade 6, cuz I was an early bloomer . My dad always used Gillette multi-blade cartridges with shaving goop and a brush, so that's what I did. I grew to resent shaving because of the lousy setup, and figured that it was just a necessary evil to being a male.

Fast-forward to late last year, where I was only shaving 1-2x per week so I wouldn't have to mess with it that often. I learned about safety razors and good shaving creams/soaps, and quickly became a convert. I still remember my first BBS on my cheeks; I was rubbing my smooth face all day!

My first razor was a RazoRock classic hammer which did the job. I was given a Gillette Slim Adjustable by a friend about a month ago, and quite enjoyed using it. Today, I was fortunate enough to be given a Gillette Super Speed, and it even came with the plastic case. I did some searching on the wiki, and I believe it to be a 1950 model (there is no date code on the bottom, and the blade bed reads "PAT. NOS. ON PKG"). Am I correct that this is from 1950?

I read through all the posts about how to clean and polish a DE, and I plan to do that this week. But I was hoping that someone could give me a recommendation on how to best clean the plastic case. It has no cracks in it, and is quite clean for being 63 years old. But is there a good way to restore the clear plastic to its original clearness? I am concerned that the plastic will easily fog or fade due to its age, so I haven't attempted any type of cleaning on it.

Thanks in advance! I look forward to everyone's insight.

Cheers!

Welcome to B&B ...
and yes, you are right, it´s a 1950 model.

Ive used Goofoff on some lightly fogged cases and it work great, make sure you get the one that cime in a spray bottle, not in a can as the can one is to remove paint, glue and graffiti , the one in a spray bottle is usually clear like an orange color liquid, you can find it at Home Depot or Lowes. If that doesnt work try an Auto lens kit restorer sold at 99% of Auto part stores they usually come with different levels of sanding sponges and a liquid spray, or you can trya lens restoration cream if you think lens sanding kit may be to much. Hope this helps )

Welcome aboard.

Colgate and cotton cloth ...light pressure and circular motion. I do this to my car restores before selling them, saves me $100's on light cover replacements.

You could try this: Novus
We use it for any acrylic products we make. It's a 3 part system.
20 bucks....is it good as Colgate?

Flitz is great for chrome, brass, bakelite, and many other materials we deal with in this hobby. Just about the only thing it's NOT good for is gold plate.

I know I used some Mother's headlight restoration with the power ball kit this weekend on my wife's car. Her headlights look like new. It's the only one I've ever used, but I recommend it!
