Cleaning a brush

Read on English Shaving Bruch Co to use Borax soap in a paste to clean a brush. I did it, it seems to have worked, but wondered if you know of other ways to remove any residue without damaging the brush, hair or knot?

I'm a big fan of washing with mild dish soap and/or giving it a few minutes in a mild Borax solution - no need to make this overly complicated.

I have had excellent success using Borax. I use hot tap water to dissolve the Borax and then soak the brush for about an hour. If I forget about for a while the Borax becomes like a paste in the bottom of the mug. Hot watter soon dissolves it again. I use this process to help break in a new brush and lessen the soggy dog smell.

Happy shaving,

Maybe this is because I don't have hard water?
But I have at other times...

Well, I have to say this never came up for me.

I used boar brushes for many decades, and never had any visible buildup of scum or anything, ever. My badgers are newer. I've never cleaned a brush that was in regular use.

The video seems to contain some useful techniques for cleaning them. But I've never seen any need.

I am a bit OCD and after use I always rinse and squeeze a brush thoroughly, in a bowl of fresh water, until there's no visible soap. Then I shake it dry and if there's any trace of foam or soap appearing on the tips as a result, I rinse it all over again. I don't know if that explains anything, but there it is.
