Clean Up attempt (Old OC DE)

You guys remember this thing? http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/345665-1903-Gillette-DE

Well I tried to clean it up...

Here are the after photos. It ended up to be kind of two toned... I think i like it though. Perhaps I wont be sending it for a plating after all...

Shave with it a couple of times. If you like it, then get it plated. Being down to the unprotected metal it will corrode if you continue to use it without a protective nickel plating over it.

It is worth it to replate if you enjoy how it shaves. You will end up with a new NEW that will last you the rest of your life

The long comb new is a very nice shaver. I have a BRW custom NEW long comb that I enjoy using

Cool, thats some solid advice. Where did you get it plated?

*bump* waiting for turtle's answer :tongue_sm

Not to speak for Mick, but he probably got the entire razor from the late (great) Cooncat Bob of Bob's Razor Works (BRW). Bob made those custom handles himself and did a lot of replated Gillette heads to go with them.

FWIW, a few of my "standard rotation" NEWs are "naked NEWs" without their original gold layer and, as long as you're using them fairly regularly and are keeping them clean the brass really just darkens with a layer of patina. Real corrosion would be a much longer term concern or need a harsher environment than you ought to be storing your razors in anyway. If you like the bright shiny "naked" look you can find brass lacquer pretty much anywhere, though it will wear through eventually and need to be reapplied.

Cool, thanks for the reply and the tip. I dont know if I like it yet... It is currently still sitting in my desk drawer.

Great job cleaning it up!

That said, as others have already recommended, I would have it replated if it were mine. :wink2:

I highly recommend Krona Kruiser. Sam is a great guy to work with, prompt with communications, meticulous with his work, and has a very fast turn around. Here is a before and after he did for me.
