What's new

Classic Shaving soap dries out too soon.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but this never happen to me with any other soap. I tried a puck of Classic Shaving soap brand vanilla and although the lather was okay it seemed to dry up on my face and even thinned out before I was done shaving. I made two passes and it happen both times.
They say their soap is made with a "High Glycerin content and Bentonite Clay". I'm about ready to toss it. Anyone else ever try this soap? I'm not sure what to do.

I had a puck of their soap as my first wet shaving lather product. It was a different scent, citrus basil I think, but I had the same issue. I assumed it was due to me not being able to properly lather hard soap. I ended up buying a tub of Proraso Green croap, which I had no issues with. I'm realizing now that I need to go back and try other hard soaps.

Classic Shaving isn't mentioned much around here, I'm not sure why aside from the fact that there seem to be better options.

I have never tried these soaps, but you may have hit the nail on the head.

You described how my classic colgate puck acted my first shave. It just seemed to flash dry on my face. The next go round i made it a little on the wet side and when it looked like it wanted to start to dry out, i just wet the tips of the brush and pretended to face lather with it. I figured it was just the extra price to pay to shave with vintage soap. A little PIA but it was fun anyway. If it was my daily soap, and more common, it would be Frankensoap fodder.

It's not mentioned, because it is generally regarded as being a total dud.

I had a few pucks that cam for free with some mugs. It's a usable soap, but absolutely nothing to write home about. There are far better performing products available for the same coin, or perhaps even less.

Even the site itself isn't mentioned often around here, but in the same vein, I think it's because there are better options - WCS, Italian Barber, etc.
